Casey Kotchman headed to DL with hamstring injury

Apr 4, 2013, 2:14 PM EDT

Casey Kotchman AP

Casey Kotchman exited yesterday’s game with a hamstring injury and Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins will place him on the disabled list.

Kotchman hit just .229 with a .612 OPS in 142 games for Cleveland last season and was only getting an opportunity in Miami because Logan Morrison is out following knee surgery.

Greg Dobbs seems likely to get most of the playing time at first base for now and he’s a 34-year-old with a .401 career slugging percentage. And Morrison isn’t due back until June or so. Marlins baseball!

Casey Kotchman’s not especially important, as the Feesh will surely finish last without him anyway. I’m just taking note of this fact so that a certain unnamed delusional Feesh fan who lives far enough away from Macondo that the long-term damage his hero has done to this community is irrelevant to the fanboy dystopia he inhabits will have a pair of thumbs to play with.

Yup, his reaction after falling awwardly trying to beat out a grounder, said “pulled hammy.” So now they will rely upon Greg Dobbs who, as a starting 1B, is a pretty good pinch-hitter.

But there is good news for the Fish — they scored a run! Justin Ruggiano homered off Jordan Zimmermann to lead off their 20th inning of the season. (3-1 Nats after 5.)

We will be covering that epochal run in detail on the comments board to ATH tomorrow!

There’s no telling when they’ll get another. Not tonight, anyway. And your Iron Giant is seriously mailing it in. OK, he got a hit. But his OBP is pumped up by getting walked. And, an error…

You do realize that the Fish used to OWN the Nats, right? B-bye===>we’re off to see the Reds.

The Marlins first base, she is a black hole. Call Jim Thome!

If you think their first base is a black hole, you ought to see their ticket orifice!
