Yankee Stadium to host some more European soccer

Apr 8, 2013, 12:31 PM EDT

Man City Chelsea

Last year Yankees Stadium played host to two big time European soccer matches: Chelsea vs. Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid vs. AC Milan.  They’re doing it again this year:

World and European champion Spain will play an exhibition game on June 11 at Yankee Stadium, which also will host a postseason friendly between Manchester City and Chelsea on May 25.

Kinda wish the Yankees hadn’t scored seven runs yesterday. Totally killed my “finally, you can see some offense at Yankee Stadium this year” joke. Man.

Awesome. Maybe they can also host a Raiders game so they can collect the trifecta of world’s most obnoxious sports fans.

Busch Stadium is going to host Chelsea and Manchester city sometime soon, too. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a pro soccer match, but apparently people are excited about this happening, and it’s kind of cool to have the opportunity to see one.

This is really going to confuse the New York fans who aren’t used to seeing such a spectacle. Not soccer itself, but two teams playing on the same pitch that have each won a cup in the last year, let alone the last twenty.

Well, they *were* on the road yesterday…
