Jered Weaver out 4-6 weeks with a broken non-pitching elbow

Apr 9, 2013, 1:00 PM EDT

Wow. When Jered Weaver left with a bum non-pitching elbow on Sunday night it didn’t seem serious. A tweak. A strain. Nothing too crazy. Ken Rosenthal is hearing, however, that it is:

The Angels just confirmed:

What a huge loss for Anaheim. Yesterday their fans (and most of us) didn’t even know that there was such a thing as a “left non displaced radial head fracture.”  Now it may derail the early part of their season.

    Very unfortunate.

I have no love lost for the Angels. That being said, this still sucks. Hope he heals fast and is back ASAP!

Remember before 2002 everyone would joke that the Angels are a cursed franchise? All the premature deaths, heartbreaking losses, bus crash, etc. Now I don’t believe in “curses” but damm, since these guys won in 02 they have had tons of bad luck. Just saying…..

    What a fucking nightmare.

Jamie Moyer may have just found a home…

The Angels have at least two more guys that can start. If they burn through Richards and Williams both, THEN they’re in serious trouble.

Too bad for weaver. Thank god it’s the non pitching arm. Do the angels call Oswalt?

    • lmoneyfresh - Apr 9, 2013 at 6:51 PM

As a rangers fan, I highly recommend they call Oswalt.

Maybe the Phillies will give them Halliday. I’ll pay the salary.

    Dam. My heart hurts.

In other news, Roy Oswolt is in self-proclaimed-great-shape and looking to pitch….D’OH!

Nothing to worry about, Pujols and Hamilton will bat them out of trouble. Hahahaha

    Richards time to shine.

This guy is a baby. He jumped out of the way like he got shot at instead of fielding his position.

Never like to see anyone get hurt, but this could actually be a blessing in disguise for Weaver. His velocity is showing a frightening trend at the moment. Once he heals up the Angels should give him a little extra time “rehabbing” and see if his velocity can rebound a bit.

That image shows Weaver’s velocity declining pretty rapidly over the last 2 years. Topping out at 87 with an average at 85 in his last start which was even in 70 degree weather.

Broken elbow from falling over? What is he 80 years old?
