Photo of the Day: A Marlins fan shows the love on his license plate

Apr 9, 2013, 1:31 PM EDT

And, apparently, no one at the Florida DMV speaks Spanish:

source:

Google it if you are confused.

Several people sent me this — apparently it made the rounds among some of the more hardcore HBT commenters today — but I have no idea where it came from originally.  All I know is that it came from a Marlins fan with taste and discernment.

UPDATE: It was apparently on Deadspin yesterday.

Heh, never would have guessed OG drives a Miata…

    • Sideline Mob - Apr 9, 2013 at 2:32 PM

Did Marlins ownership repossess this fan’s car? (License plate of the year, by the way.)

    • Old Gator - Apr 9, 2013 at 3:11 PM

I drive a Dodge Caliber – great stealth pickup truck when you want it to be. Avid gardeners love them. Mulch, glory.

      • APBA Guy - Apr 9, 2013 at 4:11 PM

That’s actually a great choice. I was surprised how much I like it when I had a rental in HI. Good deals to be had from buying a previous rental :)

    Impresionante!

  3. seattlej - Apr 9, 2013 at 1:37 PM

That is fantastic. I’m on my way to the Washington DMV to get my novelty Mariners plate that says “HIT”. It will have two meanings.

    • gunpowderjones - Apr 9, 2013 at 2:35 PM

My Pirates “OOP” plate is on the way!

    • splintchesthair - Apr 9, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Nuts, someone already took my “RAP” Cubs plate.

  4. revansrevenant - Apr 9, 2013 at 1:38 PM

Does this mean the same as the french “merde”?

    • jwbiii - Apr 9, 2013 at 1:49 PM

      Si.

      • goawaydog - Apr 9, 2013 at 2:09 PM

        si mother f@#$^r

  5. Hunter Pence's Eyes - Apr 9, 2013 at 1:40 PM

    You stay classy, Miami!

  6. thegonz13 - Apr 9, 2013 at 1:46 PM

@revans: Oui, it means the same thing!

  7. cur68 - Apr 9, 2013 at 1:56 PM

DMV in Florida doesn’t like Jeff Loria either, I guess.

    • historiophiliac - Apr 9, 2013 at 2:08 PM

It’d be funny if the owner was a DMV employee.

      • wlschneider09 - Apr 9, 2013 at 6:08 PM

        Or a Marlins employee.

      • historiophiliac - Apr 9, 2013 at 6:29 PM

        Even better!

  8. heyblueyoustink - Apr 9, 2013 at 2:04 PM

    Chica me Tipo?

  9. gerryb323 - Apr 9, 2013 at 2:30 PM

I googled “ierda” and then: facepalm

    • lmoneyfresh - Apr 9, 2013 at 6:49 PM

Kudos for at least owning that mistake.

  10. DonRSD - Apr 9, 2013 at 2:35 PM

    Fantastic plate!!!

  11. nygiantstones - Apr 9, 2013 at 2:35 PM

I give that license plate another 15 minutes of shelf-life before Loria calls one of his government contacts and has that plate revoked and added to the list of banned license plates. Guaranteed. On Deadspin and here now…way too much publicity.

    • indaburg - Apr 9, 2013 at 2:38 PM

Sadly, I think you’re right. Too much publicity. Loria’s henchmen will get rid of it.

      • Old Gator - Apr 9, 2013 at 3:09 PM

No big deal. Make up a dupe and put it on the front bumper, where everything’s optional.

Incidentally, the Florida DMV is in Tallahassee. The pythons may have spread that far, but it’s not nearly as heavily Latinized as Macondo.

      • indaburg - Apr 9, 2013 at 3:38 PM

That’s a really good idea, Gator.

  12. reeggss - Apr 9, 2013 at 3:50 PM

Lol Gerry, I did the same, doh

  13. deathmonkey41 - Apr 9, 2013 at 4:00 PM

Am i the only person who thinks that looks photoshopped?

  14. bigharold - Apr 9, 2013 at 4:06 PM

Man, four years of Spanish in HS and college and I still had to look that up.

  15. 3dimesdown - Apr 9, 2013 at 5:16 PM

That is totally photoshopped. Funny, but fake.
