Rick Ankiel has 12 strikeouts in his last 13 at-bats

Rick Ankiel AP

Rick Ankiel, like the Astros as a whole, hasn’t been the same since Opening Night.

Ankiel delivered a pinch-hit homer off Derek Lowe in the Astros’ season-opening win over the Rangers, but since then he’s come to the plate 13 times and here are the results:

Line Out

That would be 0-for-13 with 12 strikeouts and a line out, which makes the Opening Day excitement seem like it was a million years ago.

(Complicated handshake to David Cameron of Fan Graphs for taking notice of Ankiel’s stretch.)

There’s a good reason for this, but for the sake of brevity and preserving whatever small-scale reputation I might have here as something less than a total lunatic, I can tell you only that it involves a lesbian who owns a pair of Rick Ankiel’s pants, a magical moment in a sports bar on Sunday night, and an unsympathetic friend who, on Monday morning, insisted upon the removal of the devotional Ankieloid graffiti that the aforementioned pants-having lesbian had painted on his bedroom wall two years ago.

    I’ve probably said too much.

In defense of the “unsympathetic friend,” Rick Ankiel clearly sucks. No amount of superstitious graffiti can fix that.

Look here, UNSYMPATHETIC FRIEND, you were clearly warned before you acted so rashly. This is war.

I have no reputation on this site, so might as well create one:

See, you’re doing me a favor by posting that link. That shade of pink is GHASTLY, and everyone can see so now. Cursing what’s left of Ankiel’s career with the dismal Astros is a very small price to pay for permanently expunging that color from existence.

Thanks for supplying some context JRF! Cause’ I read Fearless’ post three times and had no idea what the hell she was talking about. And even with the context your link provided…I still have no idea who the Lesbian is (I am guessing you)…where the Sunday night in the Bar plays it’s role…and who painted graffiti on Ankiels wall. I am guessing you painted the graffiti as well. But I too damn tired to think about it any longer.

Those pants were tailored for someone with a rear end significantly larger than yours :)

He has a better strikeout rate as a hitter than he had as a pitcher.

Beat me to it. All the thumbs up for that one…

The guy has a good arm. Maybe he should give pitching a try?

  4. carbydrash - Apr 9, 2013 at 1:17 PM

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the record for a position player is 9 consecutive strikeouts, right? I remember it being brought up a few years ago, so I don’t know if someone’s topped it since then.

If not…congratulations Rick! Welcome to the record books!

I didn’t know that the Astros had a team.

Yeah, they got uniforms and everything. It’s really great.
