Red Sox place John Lackey on DL, send Jose Iglesias back to minors

Stephen Drew‘s return from a concussion meant that Jose Iglesias was out of a starting job and rather than keep the 23-year-old around as a bench player the Red Sox decided to send him back to Triple-A for regular playing time.

Boston also placed John Lackey on the disabled list, which was expected after he exited Saturday’s start with what appeared to be a serious arm injury and was later diagnosed as “only” a strained biceps. Either way, he’ll miss at least a few starts and Alfredo Aceves has been moved from the bullpen to the rotation to fill in.

Alex Wilson, who was the Red Sox’s second-round pick in 2009, will make his big-league debut after being called up to provide some bullpen depth.

How on Earth did the Red Sox fail to unload Lackey when they dumped all the rest of their garbage on the Dodgers last year?

Just how bad do you think the Dodgers wanted Gonzalez?

Had they taken Lackey to the EPA would have closed Dodgers stadium declaring it a Super Fund toxic dumping ground.

        Nasty ! But I like it !

You expected them to take back TWO players coming off Tommy John surgery?

Um, because he was a year out from Tommy John surgery and hadn’t thrown a pitch yet? Kinda hard to unload someone whose under contract for two more years plus an option, under those circumstances.

Well to be fair the option year is a team option.

.. at league minimum, thanks to the elbow injury clause in his contract.

I was a big fan of Iglesias’ duet with Willie Nelson…

So it is written so it shall be done.

I always thought when those guys sang “TO all the girls we’ve loved before” it sounded suspiciously like a song about a threeesome.

Mistake. Webster should fill in, not Aceves.

  5. ras1tafari - Apr 10, 2013 at 6:04 PM

This is total BS. No one in Boston wants to pay a single dollar to watch Stephen Drew pull hamstrings all season. Iglesias was playing just fine.

Second, Aceves is a POS. They could drop him for a hot dog, and I would happy. I want to see Webster up here. Let’s build an exciting young team (almost there!) and see what happens. Enough with the flotsam and jetsam.

Please let the door hit you on the way out of the clubhouse.

I remember when they signed him how it was a big win for them. Guess not.
