Brian Roberts won’t be ready to come off DL when eligible

Initial reports had Brian Roberts potentially returning from the disabled list after just two weeks, but “two weeks” and “ruptured knee tendon” never seemed to match up and sure enough he’ll be out longer.

His injury is now being called merely a “right hamstring strain” and Roberts is eligible to come off the DL on April 19, but manager Buck Showalter told reporters that “is going to be a challenge for him.”

Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun writes that Roberts “is walking without a limp but has yet to resume baseball activities” eight days after suffering the injury sliding into second base against the Rays. Ryan Flaherty will continue to be the primary fill-in at second base.

Why Flaherty??? He blows. Just bring up Schoop so we can learn in the majors. He is the future anyways.

Well “the future” hit .245 in AA last year, I’d like to see him have some more success in the high minors. And this coming from someone who is incredibly excited about the prospect of Schoop manning the infield in Baltimore for years to come.

Flaherty does look completely lost right now, but I think “blows” is a bit harsh. He did OPS over .835 after July last year, and he was one of the few guys that actually put together good AB in the ALDS.

Trying to steal a base, in the 9th inning, up by 4, no outs…

with this guy’s injury problems, seems like a stupid thing to do in that situation. Almost begging for him to get injured again. And sure enough!

As much as it breaks my heart to say it, maybe Brian should start thinking about retirement…

The Baltimore media tried to sell that he would be back in 2 weeks. Honestly, you have to be a moron to believe that mumbo jumbo

When he was rolling around in the dirt after suffering the injury, I told my friend, “Won’t be seeing him until August.”
It was a joke, hope I don’t end up being right.
