Corey Brock reports that the Padres have designated 37-year-old Cody Ransom for assignment. In 11 trips to the plate, Ransom went hitless with five strikeouts.

Ransom had never logged more than 87 plate appearances in a single season at the Major League level until last year, when he hit .220 with a .722 OPS in 282 PA with the Diamondbacks and Brewers.

In a corresponding move, the Padres have recalled Thad Weber from Triple-A Tuscon.

From some of the clips of the brawl last night I think Cody Ransom was the one running his mouth at Jerry Hairston, at least what it looked like to me.

“Cody Ransom designated for assignment” is becoming as common a phrase as “gas prices rising” or “Lindsay Lohan arrested”…..still have to admire a guy who hangs in there and always seems to make it back up to the bigs…..

He does get around as much as Lindsay Lohan that is for sure…
