Great Moments in Pre-Game Sports Drinks

Apr 17, 2013, 12:30 PM EDT

Braves reliever Luis Avilan left last night’s game with what appeared to be a left hamstring injury. A day later he’s still in pain, but he’s now thinking it was a cramp.  The culprit?

It’s almost as if surging on caffeine and stuff before athletic performance is dehydrating and bad for you and stuff. But we all know that’s crazy. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to drink a pot of coffee and compete in a triathlon. Don’t worry, though: the swimming part will provide me with plenty of water.

I was watching that game and Avilan took his stride and then collapsed while holding onto the ball. I was 100% certain that he had torn his hammy. At first, he was rolling around on the grass in front of the mound and had to be held down while the trainer attended to him. He was helped off the field and was putting zero weight on that leg. Hearing that it was just a cramp is a pleasant surprise.

Hey I am just glad it was only a cramp because he dropped like somethin had Forrest Gump jumped up and bit him…

Looks more like he had a red bull and vodka.

And of course Powerade is a Coca-Cola product. I imagine the water is Dasani (aka Marietta tap water).
