The Tigers have recalled Bruce Rondon

The Tigers bullpen continues to be a mess, so it looks like they’re going back to Plan A: using Bruce Rondon.  At least if the International League transaction wire is to be believed, because it notes that he was recalled today.

Rondon has pitched seven and two-thirds innings for Toledo so far this year and hasn’t given up any runs while allowing five hits. He has struck out nine and walked two.  Maybe that means the Tigers have new confidence in him. Maybe it’s just that Detroit has played multiple extra innings games lately and Jim Leyland needs another option besides using Phil Coke for three innings like he did on Sunday.

Either way, it’s Rondon time.

He struck out nine and also walked? Did he stike them out while walking or was the walking done at a separate time?

A single tear trickles down the cheek of Jose Valverde. Somewhere, Leyland’s heart slowly breaks…

      You’re a mean drunk. :(

Valverde was spotted on a flight to Detroit this afternoon according to Rotoworld.

Rotoworld’s source is Jon Heyman. I understand that Heyman is close to Valverde’s agent.

I would say the Tigers lack of offense with RISP the past week has been cause of their demise, not the bullpen. The ‘pen did go 8 innings on Saturday giving up just one run after Porcello messed the bed, 5 innings & one run on Sunday, and then there was the Dotel debacle on Friday night…and the team only gave up 5 runs to the Mariners during that whole series.

The offense: 5-52 with runners in scoring position during those two series.

1st sentence: started to go off (cf Porcello). 2nd sentence: calmed back down, recognizing the reason. 3rd sentence: Yep, agree. :(

He has struck out nine and walked too.

It’s good to know he strikes people out AND gets on base. The complete ball player.

So, If the it’s just Jeff Francoeur popping up the first pitch in this uncoming series, as opposed to 2/3 of the line-up, and the Royals can get to the bullpen they have a good chance to win the series?

If there is anyone not to blame for thier dreadful west coast swing, it would be the bullpen.

My theory was always that the Valverde minor deal was made to lit a fire under Rondon’s ass. Do I think it will work? No.

With Dotel on the DL, this is a no-brainer. Next no-brainer: swap Porcello with Smyly in the starting rotation.
