The Red Sox recall Daniel Bard

Boston Red Sox Daniel Bard pitches against Tampa Bay Rays during American League MLB baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston

The Red Sox have recalled Daniel Bard from the Double-A Portland Seadogs.

Bard — who face-planted last year when the Sox attempted to make him a starter — has a 4.00 ERA with four walks and four strikeouts in nine innings so far this season.  The Sox, apparently, think he’s been throwing OK, however, and frankly they need the help in the pen right now. Especially considering Alfredo Aceves may very well be stuffed in a box and shipped to Myanmar at some point soon.

Not figuring Bard will be there long, but he has a chance to wash the bad taste of last season out of everyone’s mouth.

They seriously should of traded this guy for a bag of baseballs and a few broken bats!!

But I bet he knows the difference between have and of.

It’s the sound that confuses people. “Should’ve” and “should of” sound similar, so they confuse it. It’s really the difference between ” ‘ve” and “of,” instead of “have” and “of.”

Yes, except we’re on the internet, where things are read, not heard. No excuse here.

      • historiophiliac - Apr 24, 2013 at 11:36 AM

Except that language — even as we hear it in our heads as we READ — is driven in good part by sound. Don’t be obtuse. How do you know if a word starting with “h” needs “a” or “an”? I’m not defending the dude, but I’m pointing out that the “have” and “of” objection needs clarification. Or, you can be simplistic about it. Good grief.

I just think that if you’re going to criticize someone who’s doing something that only a fraction of a fraction of the population have the skills to do, you should at least have a grasp of two of the simpler words in the English language.

      • historiophiliac - Apr 24, 2013 at 1:43 PM

And maybe you could be helpful by suggesting wherein his confusion may lie — instead of just jumping someone.

Also, he wasn’t criticizing anyone’s language. Dang.

Thanks for the English lesson fellas.

If he can find some of that old magic, Boston’s bullpen will be pretty stacked.

It doesn’t matter how well or poorly Bard pitches. If Bard’s successfully graduated from the Crash Davis School of Sound Bites, he’s already better than Aceves.

“The Red Sox have recalled Daniel Bard from the Double-A Portland Seadogs.”

They might want to take their chances by throwing a real bard out there. At least they would then be entertained, perhaps.

Now is the Winter of out discontent
    Made glorious summer by this sun of York;
And all the clouds that lour’d upon our house
In the deep bosom of the ocean buried.
Now are our brows bound with victorious wreaths

    • historiophiliac - Apr 24, 2013 at 10:51 AM

      Mmmmm, dark meat.

      • chacochicken - Apr 24, 2013 at 11:24 AM

You are every bit as creepy as I am.

      • heyblueyoustink - Apr 24, 2013 at 11:49 AM

Either of you own a copy of “Poultrygeist”?

      • historiophiliac - Apr 24, 2013 at 11:54 AM

That’s the sequel to “Buffet the Poulty-slayer” right? Personal fav.

      • heyblueyoustink - Apr 24, 2013 at 1:07 PM

Nah, Youtube the trailer. Now that’s dimented stuff.

      • historiophiliac - Apr 24, 2013 at 1:44 PM

Is it safe for work? What about for our spicy chicken?

      • heyblueyoustink - Apr 24, 2013 at 5:00 PM

sorry for the late response, but hell no it’s not safe for work!

      • historiophiliac - Apr 24, 2013 at 5:05 PM

Good grief, I coulda been fired already by now. You stink.

Is it April 1st? Or, perhaps December 25th?

  7. uyf1950 - Apr 24, 2013 at 11:24 AM

Just wondering who got dropped from the 25 man roster?

  8. 18thstreet - Apr 24, 2013 at 12:16 PM

I know I fondly recall the season he had in 2011, when it seemed obvious that he’d be taking over for Papelbon in 2012. Ah, memories. He was terrific that year.

That’s what the headline means, right? Because I can’t imagine how it could mean anything else.
