Chad Billingsley had Tommy John surgery yesterday

Cuts like a knife …

These things are pretty routine these days, of course. Unlike that Elton John surgery some people were talking about on Twitter yesterday. That one is tricky, even if the melodies are deceptively simple.

Figure a year and change until Billingsley comes back. In that time he’ll make $11 million this year and $12 million next year. If he makes good in 2014, there is a $14 million club option on him for 2015.

Well, this probably should have happened a year ago. I’ve had one semi-major surgery that is kinda baseball related (hip labrum repair, same doc that did Brian Roberts) and I wasn’t looking forward to it. I realized that PT and meds were not going to help here and it seems that Billingsley may have deceived himself a bit but here is hoping that the very promising pitcher not so long ago reemerges after recovery. Dodgers and Padres fans arguing, you are children, go eat your vegetables.
