Outfielder Jason Kubel will be ready to rejoin the Diamondbacks’ lineup on May 1 after he makes a few rehab starts with Triple-A Reno. Kubel is recovering from a strained left quadriceps, which dampened his hot start to the season. In his first eight games, he hit .333 with two home runs.

Meanwhile, Didi Gregorius had a CT scan on his head and told the media this afternoon that everything is looking good. Gregorius was hit in the head by Rockies pitcher Josh Outman yesterday. Though satisfied with the test results, he will confer with a team doctor before deciding if a stint on the 7-day concussion disabled list is necessary, per Nick Piecoro.

I sensed malice in that Josh Outman beaning last night, regardless of what he told the media after the game about feeling badly for and wanting to apologize to Didi Gregorius. Gregorius had fouled off several tough two-strike pitches (well, as tough as Josh Outman is capable of throwing) and it was obvious that Outman was frustrated by the pesky Gregorius. The next pitch; boom a fastball headed straight for Didi nails him right in the helmet. It should be noted that Gregorius tore up the Rockies during the brief start to his major league career to the tune of 5-8 (.625) with a HR and a 1.700 OPS. Outman deserves to be suspended, no question.

You’re reaching pretty hard if you think that pitch was intentional.
