The Toledo Mud Hens are going to wear Chewbacca jerseys? OK.

Chewbacca Jerseys

Laugh it up, fuzzball:

The Toledo Mud Hens will be giving both groups of people the very best of both worlds with these Wookiee uniforms. The minor league squad will be sporting their Chewbacca (Han Solo’s first mate is of the Wookiee race, for those wondering) jerseys for their Star Wars promo over the weekend of May 4 and 5.

Thanks for the parenthetical, guys.

The jerseys are for the Mud Hens’ “Star Wars” weekend. Which is May 4th because of that whole “May the Fourth be with you” thing, which is even too geeky for a geek like me.

Clearly they want to employ the Chewbacca Defense.

    • fanofevilempire - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:47 PM

with a bad a-ss name like mud hens they can do what they want.

    • threefingerclown - Apr 29, 2013 at 2:15 PM

Or the Threepio Strategy: “Let the Wookiee win.”

  2. darthicarus - Apr 29, 2013 at 11:35 AM

I would wear one of those. I approve of Minor League teams not giving a damn & doing any and every promotion they can think of.

    • heyblueyoustink - Apr 29, 2013 at 1:35 PM

The real question is, would you rock it along with your Stockton Ports hat? And maybe some zubazz pants, wearing Kangeroos?

  3. crispybasil - Apr 29, 2013 at 11:39 AM

    Han Solo: narrative. C-3PO: sabermetrics.

  4. Gamera the Brave - Apr 29, 2013 at 11:40 AM

Additionally, the Mud Hen PR department does not know the differences between the terms “race” and “species”.

Unless, of course, they think that ‘ol Chewie was a really tall, hairy Human…

    • sportsdrenched - Apr 29, 2013 at 11:42 AM

So, you’re saying they’re not a bunch of genuses?

      • Gamera the Brave - Apr 29, 2013 at 11:50 AM

        (Golf claps)
        Well played, sir…

    • anthonyverna - Apr 29, 2013 at 1:21 PM

      Gamera is really neat.
      Gamera is full of meat.
      We believe in Gameraaaaaaa!

      • Gamera the Brave - Apr 30, 2013 at 11:35 AM

Gamera would be horrified by this, but luckily he is a HUGE MST3K/Cinematic Titanic fan!
Gamera now is annoyed, because the “Gamera is really neat…” song will be in his head for the rest of the day.

This is all kinds of awesome. For all kinds of reasons.

  6. koufaxmitzvah - Apr 29, 2013 at 11:45 AM

Better than a Corporal Klinger (MASH unit 4077’s #1 Mud Hen fan) devotion weekend, but not as attractive.

    • cur68 - Apr 29, 2013 at 11:50 AM

I would totally got to a Max Q. Klinger Devotional Weekend Series. Totally. I’d wear pears and everything.

Maxwell Q. Klinger: Mr. Mud Hen

      • cur68 - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:00 PM

*pearls not pears. Jeez. Pears. Actually, might need the pears after all: a good Carmen Miranda Hat would really make that outfit.

      • historiophiliac - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:09 PM

I think Klinger actually did wear that hat.

      • cur68 - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:13 PM

I know. I always wanted one of those hats. Think of it: an awful hat with a tasty, and good for you snack: its perfect!

      • historiophiliac - Apr 29, 2013 at 1:18 PM

But I don’t think it goes with that jersey. It really needs a dress with something low in the front — lots of chest hair and all that. Otherwise, it’s just not worthy of Cpl. Klinger.

      • koufaxmitzvah - Apr 29, 2013 at 1:50 PM

If the White Sox can sport shorts, then surely the Mud Hens could play in strapless sundresses.

      • cur68 - Apr 29, 2013 at 2:27 PM

I know: twin set with pearls and the Carmen Miranda Fruit Hat. If they ever have a Klinger Night, I’m all set.

    When is gimp mask day?

    • mybrunoblog - Apr 29, 2013 at 1:32 PM

      The gimp is sleeping.

      • heyblueyoustink - Apr 29, 2013 at 1:50 PM

“Well, I guess you’re gonna have to go wake him up now, won’t you?”

  8. rbj1 - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:07 PM

    Cool. Got my ticket.
yes it’s too geeky, but hey, minor league baseball is geeky.

  9. philliesblow - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:12 PM

The odds of Nick Castellanos winning International League Wookiee of the Month just went through the roof.

    Nerd alert

  11. chacochicken - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:38 PM

What a bunch of scruffy looking nerf herders.

    • Craig Calcaterra - Apr 29, 2013 at 1:14 PM

      Who’s scruffy lookin’?

  12. sparty0n - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:46 PM

I wanna see the Ewok races around the bases during the 7th inning stretch.

  13. snowbirdgothic - Apr 29, 2013 at 12:53 PM

Let the (guys dressed as) Wookies win.

  14. nukeladouche - Apr 29, 2013 at 1:52 PM

If one of these Mud Hens makes it to the Bigs, I hope he wins Wookie of the Year.

    • kollin7 - Apr 29, 2013 at 3:26 PM

I approve of this joke, only because of how awful it was.

  16. Tyree Studio - Apr 29, 2013 at 5:05 PM

Our cruisers can’t repel minor-league-geekiness of that magnitude!

  17. lucien7116 - Apr 29, 2013 at 5:15 PM

If they also offer these to the public they are gonna clean up (even after Disney and Lucas get their cuts)!! Somebody’s in line for a bonus…
