Mark Trumbo hit the longest homer of the season last night

Apr 30, 2013, 12:16 PM EDT

Before last night’s Angels-A’s game got all wacky Mark Trumbo crushed a 475-foot homer in the second inning that ties Anthony Rizzo for the longest of the 2013 season:

“I’ve never seen a baseball go that far in this ballpark.”

Didn’t Todd Frazier go 480 last week against Cubs?

    • hasbeen5 - Apr 30, 2013 at 12:36 PM

Anything against Cubs pitching gets docked 10%.

Seems as though someone dropped the ball- there’s no info for it on this (below) site. Which is my best guess as to what the authority is on longest HR’s.

(don’t bother trying to judge from the video as you never see it).

He did, in a 1-0 win off of Samardzija and the Cubs. Amazing how he can generate so much power and yet his one-handed swing looks so unorthodox and odd. He’s leading the Reds in homers, though, so whatever works!

a little help from the doc trolls of course

    It’s APRIL!

    • paperlions - Apr 30, 2013 at 1:25 PM

      Not in Japan it isn’t.

      • historiophiliac - Apr 30, 2013 at 1:26 PM

MOVE TO JAPAN THEN, YOU HOMER!

  5. jerze2387 - Apr 30, 2013 at 1:34 PM

According to Billy Ripken on MLB tonight, it was 486. So it was probably 475.

Billy is a F___ Face. (inside joke for card collectors)

  6. illcomm - Apr 30, 2013 at 1:46 PM

it is tooooo amazing to believe.

Pretty sure Bryce Harper has hit one at least 723 feet.

That was a blast, and not expected in April at the Mausoleum. It certainly helps that the air was lighter last night, more like the summer, hot and dry, rather than the marine layer we are used to in April.

Still, that was all Trumbo. Of course, Straily missed location in the absolute worst way, but to hit it THAT far in Oakland is more than impressive.

    Big country.

The Iron Giant one seemed (always) a little more ridiculous.

    • Old Gator - Apr 30, 2013 at 3:23 PM

The iron Giant’s was measured against the first transverse girder it hit, 472 feet by laser ruler from home plate. Remove the girder and it was a solid 500 foot shot.

    staton hit 470 close

Trumbo has incredible raw power. Always a delight to watch him hit it out of the park.

  13. jimatkins - Apr 30, 2013 at 6:12 PM

Watched this one last night. If it was a few feet higher, it would have been out of the park, over the Raiders sign. Very impressive. You could tell it was going to be suborbital right off the bat. Wow.
