Brian McCann activated, will start tonight

Evan Gattis has had a nice little rookie season so far, but while he still has power to burn, the league is starting to figure him out and his OBP is going down. So it’s probably good that Brian McCann is back.  The Braves just activated him and he’ll start tonight. The corresponding roster move: the optioning of Tyler Pastornicky. Which sort of sounds like an art house movie title if you think about it.

McCann is coming off shoulder surgery but has looked pretty good on his rehab stint. He’s a .279/.351/.475 career hitter and will be a welcome addition to the feast-or-famine offense they’ve got going on in Atlanta.

Gattis gets to stay and will likely spot in an outfield corner, at first and catch a little while providing a power threat off the bench.

Isn’t that the kid from Jerry Maguire?

Justin should move to RF and Gattis should play left unless he just can’t play the OF

Gattis will be another Lucas Duda in LF; OK in small doses but his D will probably cost as many runs as his bat give.

How many options does Pastornicky have? Went to the game yesterday and he signed a lot of autographs for the kids. Just kept asking for more stuff to sign. It was a cool move on his part.

They should start McCann at second. I’d pay pretty good money to watch that.

McCann at second? The Phillies need a starting pitcher. ANY starting pitcher.

Good to see Mac back though I think we all know this is his last year as a Brave. They aren’t going to give him a long term contract, certainly not for the kind of money he’ll want (and what he deserves, no argument there), and they have Gattis now and Bethancourt coming up.

We all love ya Mac and we’ll be sad to see you go and we want you to continue to have a great career and play well against anyone but us :)

BTW I was glad for the rainout, the schedule has been murder and we needed a day off, we don’t have another one until the 16th.

McCann is sure to give the hometown discount to the Braves for a deal in the off season. He grew up in Athens, GA an hour from the stadium and is a fan favorite. Might be a good idea to deal Bethancourt when his options run out. I’m becoming a huge fan of Gattis. He came out of nowhere seemingly and has been a bright spot to Atlanta’s lineup. Who would have thought that Atlanta’s catchers would have 6 HR and 21 RBI’s the first month of the season with McCann on the disabled list?
