Jack Morris apologizes to Clay Buchholz

Hall of Fame hopeful and current Blue Jays broadcaster Jack Morris thrust Clay Buchholz into the spotlight recently when he accused the Red Sox hurler of using a spitball. The controversy became a national spectacle as Dirk Hayhurst and others joined the chorus of finger-waggers.

With the Jays in Boston to begin a three-game series, Morris apologized to Buchholz for starting a media frenzy that served as “an injustice” to the right-hander.

My guess is the Jays probably told him to apologize to him or risk termination.

      Good guess.

i used to like jack until reading this, i mean stick with your feeling dont just take it back because somebody doesnt like it. With that said im not even picking on buchholz either cause if the guy is cheating he hardly is the only one. I say allowed PEDS and Sunscreen on the mound!!

Or he realized he was in the wrong…

      • dirtyharry1971 - May 10, 2013 at 11:50 PM

realized he was wrong? Bull!! In this day and age we live in if you say something that might hurt someone’s feelings all of the sudden that person is saying he is sorry. If you believe something is the truth, you should have the nuts to stick with your word unless you are proven dead wrong which did not ever happen here. And remember now, i really dont care if buchholz did or didnt cause i feel most of them cheat anyway to the point to where its part of the game

Hall of fame statement there Jack, let’s see if Dan Shannousey does the right thing now and apologize to Papi. Doubtful though.

Buchholz should have told him to suck his Angel Hernandez.

    • historiophiliac - May 10, 2013 at 8:14 PM

      Hey! Drunk already?

      • paperlions - May 10, 2013 at 8:16 PM

Nope. Just don’t like disingenuous apologies. This jackwagon publicly accuses a guy of cheating, then puts his tail between his legs and say “sorry” because he has to face the guy a few days later? Weak.

If he believed it when he said it, he should still believe it now, shouldn’t he?

      • historiophiliac - May 10, 2013 at 8:18 PM

I have no opinion on that, paper.

/goes back to drinking her beer and watching the Tigers WINNING!

“If he believed it when he said it, he should still believe it now, shouldn’t he?”

Egg-zactly. And go get drunk- stop slacking.

    Injustice rofl.

Dude was putting a substance on the ball. And I really give three shits if “everyone else does it”. Didn’t care to hear that crap about PEDs and don’t care to hear that crap about this.

To be even more frank, I don’t buy the line about “it’s just for grip”.

Dude was a scrub, minus the shiny ass arm and two-finger strokin on his forearm last year then suddenly becomes unhittable.

But sure, it wasn’t to get movement on the ball. Not at all.

    • stevequinn - May 11, 2013 at 10:10 AM

Scrub? You just showed your ignorance.

    • 07bosox - May 11, 2013 at 6:11 PM

Scrub? What the hell you been smoking? Quite obvious you know absolutely about his career!

  5. hittfamily - May 10, 2013 at 8:13 PM

I had a mustache like that once. I could hide anything up there. TSA used to have to run the metal detector over it. Morris didn’t have to have smear sun screen on his arm. He could have just hid a grease gun or a tube of KY up there. I’m not saying he cheated, but he could have.

  6. kjericho43 - May 10, 2013 at 8:19 PM

Now Eck needs to apologize to Morris and then all three can hug it out.

  7. proudlycanadian - May 10, 2013 at 9:50 PM

From what I read, Morris did not say that Buchholz was not cheating. The only thing he apologized about was talking about it.

  8. gabrielthursday - May 10, 2013 at 9:51 PM

I hardly think this non-apology was worth tweeting about, much less blogging about.

I’d like to see apologies from all those who condemned Dirk Hayhurst for raising the issue-
Since he was right and all.

    • overdwayneboweshead - May 12, 2013 at 3:25 AM

Who was right???? Have you seen buch’ numbers since he was accused of cheating?????? The world has been watching his every move and he still has a sub 2 era. But hasn’t gotten any run support. I.e. todays game. Wake up. Hayhurst is a joke who was just trying to get his name out there so he can sell more sh*tty books.

  9. drewzducks - May 10, 2013 at 11:18 PM

Rumor has it, Morris’ exact quote to Buchholz was ” dude, get a grip”.

  10. drewzducks - May 10, 2013 at 11:21 PM

How long ’til they accuse Lester of something after he toyed with that JOKE of a lineup tonight. What’s the Jays magic number now?

  11. thebigtim2012 - May 11, 2013 at 11:13 AM

Seriously. Clay has been a very good pitcher for a few years now calling him a scrub is just ignorant. He didn’t put sunscreen on the ball he put it on his hands for grip. Just like what rosin is used for. I think that was a class move to apologize.

  12. bigleagues - May 13, 2013 at 10:50 PM

    BLACK Jack Morris???

I think Edes has gone and caught himself a case of Gammonsitis – misappropriating nickname associations of other players.

I don’t remember anyone ever referring to Jack Morris as “Black Jack”

Now Jack McDowell, on the other hand, virtually had his last name dropped from usage by ESPN & CNN in favor of the “Black Jack” moniker.
