I suppose the umpiring could be worse

Bad calls are bad. But at least Angel Hernandez didn’t get tased twice because he was drunk and belligerent like this dude in Illinois was:

An umpire at of a Stark County High School baseball game was arrested on the field after allegedly passing out and attacking the first responders that tried to help … “I heard from my friends that the guy was resisting arrest and he said a few things he shouldn’t have said,” Stark County High School Student Noel Ellis tells us.   “They tased him twice.”

The local news report about this, however, is way better than the written article.

“But at least Angel Hernandez didn’t get tased twice because he was drunk and belligerent…”

Maybe it’s me but we could be setting the bar a little low for umpiring if not being drunk, tazed or thrown in the hoosegow is the standard.

To mash this story with the Astros charity one, how about they hold an even where you can pay to taser Angel Hernandez. Throw in Cowboy Joe West and make it a twofer.

I will take out a large cash loan, and set up a campsite next to the gate entrance.

You my man could make a quick million on that one. No end to that line.

I have to say that that news story was AWESOME! Some lumpy dude and an old lady, no first-hand witnesses of the actual drunk guy – JOURNALISM!

The only thing worse than having your alcoholism announced on local TV is to also become an internet sensation. Hope he gets help.

This might answer the question: is there anything worse than a drunk clown at a birthday party? It appears that, yes, there is something worse than that.

Joe Torre issued a statement that the umpire in question will not face disciplinary action because whether or not he was actually under the influence was a “judgement call”, not subject to replay or review.
