There will be hockey at Yankee Stadium

Just not the Winter Classic, which can’t play Yankee Stadium until they get done scheduling bowl games no one really wants to see there in late December. But there will be two hockey games at Yankee Stadium next year: The Rangers vs. the Devils on January 26, 2014 and the Rangers vs. the Islanders on January 29.

Which will probably be a lot of fun, as I’m told these outdoor hockey games are.

    NHL fan, just passing through

went to an outdoor game at Wrigley between Detroit and Chicago, they’re A LOT of fun and quite a sight to see

They were fun because they’re special, but they’re not special anymore because the novelty is becoming tired.

At this rate, all NHL games will be played outdoors by 2025 until an NHL exec says, “What if we played a hockey game INDOORS?!?!”

So far there’s been 0 hockey games in Yankee Stadium and there hasn’t been an outdoor NHL game in over a year…how is the novelty getting tired?!?

Also as a Devils fan can someone tell me how they’re playing the Rangers in the Bronx, and the Rangers are the road team?!?!

While each one is unique, many fans are noting how next season the NHL plans at least half a dozen of these, including in Dodger Stadium and another one indoors/outdoors in Vancouver’s domed stadium, plus the Winter Classic.

Because they aren’t going to actually make the Rangers give up a home game, duh!

Considering almost everyone will see this on TV and it will look the same as any other hockey game, hard to believe it even gets reported anymore.

What is this “Hockey” you speak of??

It that the same as that games that kinda looks like soccer with sticks on ice? I think I saw a bit of that, .. a lot of back and forth. Kind of boring and dull. Until a fight broke out then it got interesting momentarily.

The Ducks will be playing the Kings at Dodgers Stadium next year. I think it’s kind of cool. I only go to one or two hockey games a year, but I’ll definitely try to catch the Ducks game at Dodgers Stadium.

      Duck Dodgers?

Hockey is awesome. Outdoor hockey is even better. This is a very smart move by the NHL to play 2 outdoor games in Gotham at the begining of Super Bowl Week. Great media coverage. I don’t know if the record has subsequently been broken, but the famous Snow Globe game between the Sabres and Penguins at Rich Stadium (home of the Bills) on January 1, 2008 had the highest television ratings ever for a regular season hockey game. People will watch. Tickets will sellout in minutes. Hopefully it’s cold with a little snow in the Bronx for these games.
