Chase Utley is getting an MRI exam after “burning sensation” in rib cage

Chase Utley was scratched from last night’s game with pain in his right side and Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that the Phillies second baseman is getting an MRI exam.

Utley complained of a burning sensation in his rib cage and Salisbury speculates that it might be an oblique strain, which would almost certainly require a disabled list stint.

For now Utley remains on the active roster, but he’s highly unlikely to play tonight and Freddy Galvis may be in line for regular playing time.

      Really?
      05 – 147
      06 – 160
      07 – 132
      08 – 159
      09 – 156
      10 – 115
      11 – 103
      12 – 83
And this year so far last night was his 1st game missed.

That’s 82% of the possible games he could have played in. Plus 100% of the extra 46 postseason games he played in. And on top of that he’s pretty widely considered as one of the guys who play the game pretty hard.

      I think that’s pretty good.

You should check things out before you say them so as to maybe avoid making it look like you have no idea what you’re talking about. Just sayin’.

That’s true, but he’s not the player he was back in ’05 or ’06. The fact is he hasn’t played a full season since ’09. Beginning in ’10, he’s played in only 65% of available games.

Aren’t burning sensations usually either farther down or higher up?

I trust he doesn’t urinate via his “rib cage”.

I had a burning sensation one time.
But it had nothing to do with my rib cage and an MRI wasn’t the remedy.
