Ryan Madson had another setback

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: Angels reliever Ryan Madson was finally making some progress in his rehab from last season’s elbow surgery, but he’s suffered yet another setback.

Madson felt soreness in his elbow after a one-inning rehab appearance at Single-A last week and hasn’t pitched since. As you’d expect Madson sounds pretty frustrated, telling William Boor of MLB.com: “I can’t believe it’s taken this long.”

Madson hasn’t pitched in a big-league game since the 2011 playoffs for the Phillies and obviously when/if he does join the Angels’ bullpen at some point it’ll be as a setup man to closer Ernesto Frieri.

The important thing to remember here is that Scott Boras had a plan. There was a plan.

Why does everyone talk about the money Madson lost – there was a plan!

Ahhhh…. the magic of TJ surgery.

    Who’s this Mason kid?

Reds got to pay him not to pitch all last year. Must be the Angels turn now…

The guy WAS good at one time. Injuries, what can you do?

I feel bad for Madson, he was a good pitcher here in Philly, and always seemed likeable. Funny how two years ago everyone thought he had re-upped with the Phillies, only for it to fall apart. Looks like the best move RAJ didn’t want to make that he ended up making lol.

    The Grady Sizemore of pitching.

Speaking of…what’s going on with Grady? Have to look that one up.

Feel bad for Maddog. He was a huge part of the Phillies success. He had mid-90s fastball and a great changeup. Sound like he may never get back to that level.

Ryan Madson is my hero. Dude has made what $12 million in 2 seasons and not played once during that time. Anyone else making that kinda cash and not working is considered a criminal or scammer.

Or a banker. Or a lawyer or politician, if we’re going to include sub-humans.

At this point you have to count him out for the season. Tough break on the injury front after finding out Weaver is nearing a return yesterday.

    I’m shocked. Shocked!

Hey, someone had to say it.
