Blue Jays fan throws beer at Nate McLouth

May 24, 2013, 8:23 AM EDT

Recently there has been some talk about the fans in Toronto getting too drunk and too rowdy for their own good. We saw a bit of it last night.

Orioles outfielder Nate McLouth made a nice catch, falling into the stands. When he got back up and got on the field, a fan wasted a lot of money tossing a ballpark beer at him. The flying brewski comes in at around the 18 second mark.

Boy, you sure showed him, idiot fan.

The idiot fan throwing a beer at McLouth was NOT the proper response to his non-catch. The Jays beating his team 12-6, however, WAS an appropriate response.

The moral? People behave badly in any country.

The “so called fan”, should be banned for a month.

….and spend a week worth of nights in jail, while picking up roadside trash by day..

Should be banned from that building forever. There are very clear rules for fans about conduct, and this is an absolute violation of a big one.

Oh–and don’t blame McLouth. The umps should have seen what he did. Every player tries for an edge, within the rules or not.

Not to defend the citizens of Toronto, but behavior like this from fans is nothing new and not isolated to that city. Just to cite one example, look up an account of the game Rocky Colovito hit four homers. It was 1957 or 58 in Baltimore. A fan in RF bleachers was heckling Rock calling him a bum and whatnot. He made a catch at the wall and got doused with a beer. He went on to hit four homers and said by the end of the game the guy who threw the beer applauded him. Might be off on some specifics, but that is the basic story.

The Canadian economy must be doing well if a guy can throw away a $20 Blue Light like that. By the way, that fan throws like a girl.

It reminded me of the bosox “fans” throwing beer and anything they had in hand to Gary Sheffield, until they threw stuff and hit Karim García and other pitchers in the bullpen… oh yeah, and MLB fined the players who defended the pitcher who was hit by one of the groundskeepers at Fenway (later was incarcerated because he was selling steroids to Boston Red Sox players, along with Jerry Remy’s son, who worked as a groundskeeper).
