The Angels and the city of Anaheim are working on a new deal

The Angels’ lease with Angel Stadium is set to expire after the 2016 season, so the organization and the city of Anaheim are working on a detail to keep the two parties together for the foreseeable future, reports MLB.com’s Zack Meisel. Such a deal may also provide the club with stadium renovations.

“The City of Anaheim and Angels Baseball have entered into discussions relating to the current lease agreement,” [Angels president John] Carpino said in a statement. “These discussions, which are in the early stages, are focused on maintaining a high-quality fan experience for many years to come.”

The relationship between the Angels and the city of Anaheim had been strained in the past, when Arte Moreno changed the team’s name to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, leading to a lawsuit, though the jury eventually sided with Moreno.

It would actually be nice to see Moreno’s decision to change the name to “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in Orange County, California which is 40 miles from LA” come back to haunt him during these negotiations but I doubt it will.

It is very stupid, but if we want to get technical the 49ers will not be playing in the city of San Francisco and the Jets and Giants do not even play in the STATE of New York.

Let’s also not forget that the Rams were not called the Anaheim Rams when they played at the big A.

The Anaheim aspect of the name was relatively new when Moreno tried to change it (Disney is the one that agreed to change it to Anaheim Angels when they got the first round of stadium renovations…not surprising since they had an invested interest in boosting ANAHEIM as a city due to Disneyland) so it’s not like Gene Autry ever envisioned the Angels brand as “Anaheim” either.

California Angels was always the best name in my opinion but I don’t see it changing from LA while Moreno owns the team.

Anaheim is not Los Angeles! Anaheim is not near Los Angeles County! No one in LA wears Angel gear. LA and SoCal has and always will be a Dodger town.

      Not near LA county? Huh?

I get the “not an Angels city” thing but saying they aren’t close is off. Huge portions of Los Angeles county are closer to Angel stadium than Dodger stadium if we’re talking straight proximity.

Start by changing the name again. Anaheim is no where near Los Angeles.

Nobody cares about Aneheim, LA or anywhere in crappy California for that matter. I hope you all get eaten by sharks when your surfing you gangly freaks. Better yet, go kill more fans in the parking lot you dirty terrorists.
