Brett Gardner made a heck of a catch

May 28, 2013, 11:03 AM EDT

Winning effort in a losing effort, robbing Daniel Murphy in yesterday’s 2-1 Mets win.:

Murphy would still get his later with the game-winning hit, but that is some sweet leather there by Gardner.

Beauty play. Which team was the second set of announcers in the clip from? They were kind of annoying.

    • Ralph - May 28, 2013 at 11:22 AM

The second announcers are the Yankees radio team, John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman. And yes, they’re incredibly annoying…I think most Yankees fans would agree.

John Sterling is awesome to listen to, although he is having some problems keeping track of things lately, but Suzyn Waldman is just awful…She contributes nothing to the broadcast other than an annoying voice and banter that really isn’t relevant to anything…I miss the days of Sterling & Kay, and Sterling & Steiner were really good too…I can’t wait for them to ditch Suzyn

      • Ralph - May 28, 2013 at 1:19 PM

I agree with you about Sterling and Kay, but completely disagree with you on Sterling being awesome to listen to now. He’s a complete homer and has made the game about his home run calls and his nicknames for the players, etc.

It all started with his “Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Yankees Win” call, then the “It is high, it is far, it is GOOOONNNNNEEEEE”. From there it progressed to “A home run from BAM-Tino!”, “an A-Bomb, from A-Rod”, and the rest of his insufferable Sterlingisms. He’s awful, plain and simple. I can’t wait for someone else to step in.

Oh, and Suzyn Waldman has no business being near a microphone. Ever.

That’s John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman, the Yankees radio announceers. She of the “oh my gawd Rogah Clemens is in George’s box!” call. They are secretly the reason Yankee fans are so bitchy and onnoxious about our team, because if you had to listen to those two everyday for years on end you would also kvetch and moan that the team better win a championship every year for putting us through this special level of hell.

    • churchoftheperpetuallyoutraged - May 28, 2013 at 12:01 PM

Why would you ever knowingly listen to those two?

      • Kevin S. - May 28, 2013 at 12:04 PM

If you’re stuck in the car and can’t get the game any other way.

My favorite part of the Subway Series is getting to listen to the Mets’ broadcast.

Not sure why it was ever a question of whether Gardner or Granderson should play center.

    • fanofevilempire - May 28, 2013 at 12:05 PM

      Well played center last night.

      • deathmonkey41 - May 28, 2013 at 12:32 PM

John sterling is supposed to be annoying I think.

  6. jpm557 - May 28, 2013 at 2:37 PM

“Murphy drills a shot to deep left center field. Gardner going back, on the track, at the wall. It is…up and over the wall! No wait it’s caught by Gardner!”

  7. badintent - May 28, 2013 at 3:28 PM

Gardner is the best . Not flashy but is the best………………. just Like the Yankee Clipper was in center field.”A nation turns it’s lonely eyes to you…………..|

Based on this weekends discussion would this be considered lucky? I’ll call it gritty for the hustle and smacking the body up against the wall.

    Not quite Endy Chavez like.
