Sons of Manny, Clemens, Biggio, Moyer, Pettitte among potential draft picks

Jun 4, 2013, 1:20 PM EDT

One of my favorite parts of the draft each year is all the relatives of current and former big leaguers being picked out of high school and college.

Conor Glassey of Baseball America has combed through thousands of potential draftees to put together a pretty extensive list of players with MLB bloodlines, along with some other players with famous relatives outside of baseball.

Glassey’s list includes the sons of Manny Ramirez, Craig Biggio, Roger Clemens, Jay Buhner, Bucky Dent, John Farrell, Torii Hunter, Rafael Palmeiro, Andy Pettitte, and Jamie Moyer, plus Jason Heyward‘s brother, Harmon Killebrew’s grandson, Ruben Amaro Jr.’s nephew … you get the idea.

Check out the whole list and spend the rest of the day feeling old/nostalgic.

Rusty Kuntz’ son is in the draft. Glad to see the Kuntz MLB lineage continuing.

I see by my thumbs down there is at least one person on HBT that does not like Kuntz!

      (Ok I need to stop)

An interesting list. Is there a similar list for draft prospects who are relatives of WAG’s?

Jordan Shipley will be interested to find out that he is a “former NFL wide receiver”.

I guess the Jags are planning on cutting him. What a bad way to find out.

I’m pretty excited for the day that the Brothers Brothers make their major league debuts.

Hopefully Amaro’s nephew will be a better ballplayer (and potentially future GM) than his uncle is/was.

saw Clemens son play and wow he has good pitches he will be an ace like his dad

Odds of any of Clemens’ sons even making it to MLB is slim….just because the odds of any prospect making it there is small…this kid isn’t any different. He’s a mid-level arm type of guy without exceptional raw stuff. Plus, he’s not signing now anyway. He doesn’t need the money and appears to want to follow his dad to UT.

It seems to me that baseball and hockey have more multi-generational combos (as well as siblings) than football and basketball. Kind of interesting, if it is so.

If you want to know how frickin good Manny Ramirez was; just read the headline. He was the only one listed by first name.
