Nick Hundley, Clayton Richard were trapped in Colorado

Jun 9, 2013, 6:45 PM EST

With that headline, one’s instinct is to interpret it metaphorically, but Padres catcher Nick Hundley, starter Clayton Richard, and pitching coach Darren Balsley were literally trapped in an office prior to this afternoon’s series finale at Coors Field.

Via MLB.com’s Corey Brock:

For about 10 minutes, Bossart and Coors Field clubhouse workers tried different keys and other means to open the door. Nothing worked. Soon enough, Padres players, coaches and staff gathered around, laughing.

Outfielder Chris Denorfia placed speakers next to the door and played “Break on Through” by The Doors.

“[Balsley] is going through the vent,” Hundley joked.

Finally, someone inside the room pulled the door from its hinges, and Bossart kicked in the door to his own office to free the players with plenty of time to spare before the game.

That situation vaguely reminds me of this hilarious scene from the 1993 film Rookie of the Year.

Too bad they didn’t leave Richard and his 8.00+ ERA locked in there.

As someone who has been trapped in Colorado due to avalanche blasting gone wrong, I definitely took this headline the wrong way.
