Sexual assault civil suit against Carlos Marmol was dropped

This winter Carlos Marmol was accused of sexual assault by a 24-year-old woman in the Dominican Republic and the Cubs reliever in turn accused the woman of blackmail and extortion, filing a counter lawsuit.

Marmol said back in February that he was “very pissed off” about the charges, claiming: “I didn’t do anything. The stuff she said is not true. It’s about money.”

Four months later the civil lawsuit against him has apparently been dropped and Gordon Wittenmeyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Marmol “did not pay a settlement.”

Nothing to see here. Move along. We’ll just wait for news of someone biting someone’s ear off.

It must be difficult going out and pitching with this hanging over your head. It wouldn’t surprise me if his play improves going forward.

Of course, it also wouldn’t surprise me if he walks 3 batters in his next game. He’s a right-handed Mitch “Wild Things” Williams.

He’s also a Cub. If you want to understand why he stinks, default to the simplest explanation (The Book of Occam, Chapter 1: Shaving Techniques).
