Angels will skip Joe Blanton’s next turn in the rotation

Joe Blanton is 1-10 with a 5.87 ERA and the Angels just announced that the veteran right-hander’s next turn in the rotation will be skipped.

That means he won’t start Sunday against the Yankees as scheduled, with the Angels lining up C.J. Wilson, Tommy Hanson, and Jered Weaver for the three-game series instead.

It’s tough to blame the Angels for wanting to minimize their reliance on Blanton given how poorly he’s pitched, but before struggling in his most recent outing he’d thrown three consecutive Quality Starts with a 17/0 K/BB ratio in 21 innings.

And of course the Angels signed him to a two-year, $15 million deal in December, so they can’t just ignore him until he goes away.

Well, at least Blanton’s is the only bad contract the Angels have handed out lately.

And yet Jerome Williams remains in the bullpen. Hard to understand the logic there (and yes I understand he’s starting tonight)

And I thought the Corriea contract was bad. Woof!

Next thing we’ll hear is Joe Blanton’s “upset” he gets skipped even though he got finished telling us he “never gets frustrated” and he “does his best”. This guy is a jackass that has demonstrated he clearly does not give a damn whether the Angels win or lose. He’s just happy to get paid.

K/BB ratio? Blanton has given up more hits than anyone else in MLB this year. Too many balls in play, that’s the bottom line for this guy.

Why did it take the Angels staff so long to decide this? As a lifelong Angels fan, I am ready for Scioscia and the entire coaching staff to hit the streets!
