Bruce Bochy, George Kontos suspended for throwing at Andrew McCutchen

Jun 12, 2013, 5:28 PM EDT

George Kontos

MLB is warming up for the coming Dodgers-Diamondbacks suspensions: just now it suspended Giants pitcher George Kontos and manager Bruce Bochy. Kontos gets a three-game suspension, Bochy a one-gamer. Bochy will serve his tonight. Kontos, who was just optioned to the minors, will serve his if and when he gets called back up.

The suspensions are the result of Kontos intentionally throwing a pitch at Andrew McCutchen in the bottom of the eighth inning of Tuesday’s game. A warning had already been issued but went unheeded.

Now, crack open the book for Ian Kennedy and friends …

Five bucks says Ian Kennedy’s suspension is less than Kontos’.

Ten says it is more than double.

15 I would think. Then reduced to 10 on appeal.

      I’ll take that bet.

Kontos stayed away from his head and hit McCutchen in the butt. I have no problem with this.

How was I supposed to know this happened? It wasn’t in ATH this morning. Humph.

What happened before McCutchen got hit? A bat flip? Gazing at a foul ball? C’mon, gimme some details!

      I missed it too. :(

Towards the end of last year, I told my buddies that we hadn’t had a good bench-clearing in awhile and we seemed due. Nothing came. I guess they were saving it up b/c this season everyone’s going crazy. It’s like they gave out double-doses of old school in spring training.

Tony Watson pitched Marco Scutaro inside, hitting him in the hand causing injury. Kontos threw a pitch behind Marte, got a warning, then struck out Marte. McCutchen comes up and he drills him in the backside.

kontos pitch to cutch looked like it was breaking way in like a slider. don’t think he meant to hit him. now marte, could have hit him in the melon. came pretty close.

Marte homered earlier but didn’t do anything that warranted a beaning. Kontos then threw behind Marte’s head and missed before drilling Cutch a few batters later

Im going to go ahead and blame Greinke for this one too.

      Sounds fair.

So that was how Scutaro’s hand came out looking like a snake. Sure wish Craig would connect the dots–too much going on for a poor Nats fan to follow. Have to stay up late for games in Denver where it’s like 100 degrees. Now, wasn’t it snowing there about five minutes ago?

if you can’t beat em, bean em.
