Carlos Gomez needs more votes. He leads MLB in WAR.

    • neoshweaty - Jun 17, 2013 at 1:54 PM

I imagine you’ll get downvoted by the traditionalists but even using the triple slash line shows that he has been raking all damn year even away from Coors. Good to see that he took a leap this year.

      • yahmule - Jun 17, 2013 at 1:55 PM

Man, Gomez is underrated as hell.

      • olafisberserker - Jun 17, 2013 at 1:59 PM

        Carlos Gomez =/= Carlos Gonzalez.

      • neoshweaty - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Oops. Got my Carlos Outfielders mixed up. Still, both are having great years.

    • yahmule - Jun 17, 2013 at 1:54 PM

Voters are simply too dazzled by Jupton’s scintillating .247/.358/.477 and preternatural skill of homering with the bases empty.

      • kyzslew77 - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:10 PM

Upton since May 1: .215/.330/.315. GET THAT GUY THE STARTING SPOT HE DESERVES, BRAVES FANS!

      • yahmule - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:39 PM

        What a super-duper-star!

Martin Prado isn’t fit to stand in his garbage!

    • commenter - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:30 PM

true he’s having a great year, but does a last place team deserve two all-stars? looks like the cards will have 11, and Bochy will put as many giants on as he can. will there be any room left for Gomez?

  2. neoshweaty - Jun 17, 2013 at 1:54 PM

Go Captain America! Hope those cougars help get him in the game.

    • thebadguyswon - Jun 17, 2013 at 4:47 PM

      Behold the power of MILF.

  3. specialkindofstupid - Jun 17, 2013 at 1:57 PM

This might be the first reference to “Soap” since Richard Mulligan’s death in 2000.

  4. paperlions - Jun 17, 2013 at 1:57 PM

“neck and neck tattoo” was pretty funny….who’d you steal that joke from?

  5. olafisberserker - Jun 17, 2013 at 1:58 PM

Everth Cabrera needs more love. He’s currently 2nd among shortstops in WAR.

    • gloccamorra - Jun 17, 2013 at 11:25 PM

Ain’t gonna happen. Beauty contest. Ballot stuffing. West coast games end after 1 AM Eastern time. Writers can’t pronounce his first name.

  6. frenchysplatediscipline - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:01 PM

How in the hell did BJ Upton garner over 733K votes???

    • historiophiliac - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:10 PM

      You’re welcome.

    • paperlions - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:14 PM

People love BJs, who wouldn’t vote for them…..um, him?

      • historiophiliac - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:23 PM

Man, you’re on with the dick jokes today, aren’t you? Personally, I don’t think you can top the time one, but knock yourself out.

      • paperlions - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:29 PM

My goal is to make it through a week without ‘burgie calling me “downerlions”. Dick jokes seem to cheer her up, so….dick jokes it is.

      • historiophiliac - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:30 PM

Awww, that’s so cute. Hey, if she says something negative, turn the tables and call her “downerburg.” lol

  7. dondada10 - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:01 PM

Shout out to Craig Carton who started a “sweat shop” of women to vote for David Wright. I honestly think Cougar Life stole Carton’s idea.

  8. specialkindofstupid - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:04 PM

What puzzles me most about these results (due to the fact the two players play for the same team, and any home-team biases are negated) is that B.J. Freakin’ Upton has more votes than Brian McCann.

I realize McCann began the season on the DL (and even if he did not, I do not think he should be voted onto the all-star team this year…please do not misinterpret this as a “McCann should be on the team” argument), but his stats are still better than Upton’s. On no planet should B.J. Upton have more votes than Brian McCann, and barely fewer votes than teammates Freddie Freeman and Andrelton Simmons.

  9. knowlegeforyou - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:18 PM

Scuttero… Brandon Crawford….Beltran Upton and Harper over Carlos Gonzalez…I hate the voting. Let the players and coaches of every team vote to decide the roster!

  10. knowlegeforyou - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:18 PM

    Scutaro

  11. colbycal1383 - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Dom brown better than all those outfielders

    • jm91rs - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:29 PM

Unfortunately most of people voting didn’t even know who he was until 2 months ago

    • beebopthearcher - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:56 PM

Dominic Brown has many home runs.
….but is not very good at getting on base (.320 OBP, ranks 47th out of 71 qualified batters).

He ranks 15th in fWAR for NL Outfielders. Though I am inclined to think that fWAR is undervaluing quite a bit, he certainly hasn’t been better than Choo, Gonzalez, Gomez, and a number of other players (Beltran, Pence, etc) are right there with him.

He’s having a fine year with a lot of homers…but there is more to the game than just homers.

  12. playapro5 - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:29 PM

    Paul Goldschmidt
    Brandon Phillips
    Jean Segura, Brewers
    David Wright, Mets
    Yadier Molina, Cardinals
    Justin Upton, Braves
    Ryan Braun, Brewers
    Carlos Gonzalez, Rockies

Fan voting should not be allowed

    • paperlions - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:03 PM

If you are going to put Goldschmidt ahead of Votto based on this year and Segura ahead of Tulo based on this year, then you have to put Carpenter ahead of Phillips based on this year, and Gomez ahead of everyone based on this year, and Choo ahead of Braun or Upton based on this year….heck Everth has been better than Segura this year as well.

      At least be consistent.

      • beebopthearcher - Jun 17, 2013 at 4:02 PM

Yeah, but Phillips knows how to know in runs. Sure, Carpenter is better getting on base, has a higher slugging percentage, improbably has the same amount of stolen base ability this year, is topping Phillips in dWAR…but…you now…RBIs!

Perhaps if Carpenter really wanted to be an all-star, he’d stop hiding behind that whole “I’m the leadoff hitter” excuse and start hitting cleanup.

      • beebopthearcher - Jun 17, 2013 at 11:20 PM

Ouch, 0 for 8. Is it because no one understood that I was being saracastic or that they think RBIs are really make Brandon Phillips better?

    • jm91rs - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:30 PM

Let’s get rid of fan voting and just let playpro5 pick the teams.

    • yahmule - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:43 PM

Putting Jupton in your starting lineup really helps with the credibility factor.

    • cardslifer - Jun 17, 2013 at 11:25 PM

Neither should yours. Lay off the Xanax and cough syrup the next time you post.

  13. gbpackfan1990 - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:32 PM

As awful as the Brewers have been this year, they deserve 2 representatives in the AS game this year and I’m not talking about Braun. Segura and Gomez are having phenomenal years.

  14. spedman24 - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:35 PM

    Giants fans are pathetic

    • Hunter Pence's Eyes - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:23 PM

I’m pretty sure that if your team was defending World Series champs, the votes would be skewed that way as well.

It’s not that we’re pathetic, we’re just proud of our team. :)

    • threefingerclown - Jun 17, 2013 at 6:54 PM

Better to have a “pathetic” fan base that stuffs the ballot box than an apathetic fan base that doesn’t even bother to vote.

  15. baddogjosie - Jun 17, 2013 at 2:43 PM

Giants and Cardinals fans stuffing the hell out of those ballots.

    • paperlions - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:05 PM

      and Braves fans.

  16. discountdoublecheck - Jun 17, 2013 at 3:17 PM

Brandon Belt having that many votes makes me want to hop in my ROFLcopter and go visit Ben ROFLsberger in LOL-land.

    • yahmule - Jun 17, 2013 at 4:09 PM

You may be getting too much internet.

  17. cambodianbreastmilk - Jun 17, 2013 at 5:54 PM

Do people actually vote based on performance anymore or is it just “vote for your favorite team no matter how horrible Brandon Belt is”? WTF is wrong with these people!?

  18. sauey2000 - Jun 18, 2013 at 12:38 AM

As long as the steroid pumping cheater Ryan Braun doesn’t get in I’m happy
