Out since May 20 with a strained oblique, Phillies second baseman Chase Utley has been cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment tonight at Double-A.

Assuming he doesn’t have a setback Utley’s rehab stint is expected to be just a few games, potentially setting him up to come off the disabled list this weekend.

Philadelphia is 14-13 in Utley’s absence, but Corey Seidman of points out that his replacements at second base have hit a combined .190 with a .461 OPS. Utley hit .272 with an .814 OPS in 44 games before the injury.

Hopefully he gets back and plays well so they can trade him by the deadline.

what do you get in return for an aging 2nd basemen that’s injury riddled and can barely walk after games though?

      • ryanrockzzz - Jun 19, 2013 at 1:04 PM

A walker for Ryan Howard to use by the time he gets to third base?

He can barely walk after games? Haven’t heard that. Perhaps because it’s a desperate attempt by you to make something up?

It’s always better to make a point with something that’s true. When you just lie about something it makes you look like an idiot with no integrity…like you just did.

Seriously though, Utley will certainly fetch the Phillies something. Certainly not a top level prospect, but they could get a second tier player instead of letting him walk/limp away for nothing at the end of the year.
