The Astros announced this evening that left-hander Wade LeBlanc has been designated for assignment while infielder Marwin Gonzalez has been optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The team will announce corresponding roster moves tomorrow.

LeBlanc was claimed off waivers from the Marlins earlier this month and allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks over 3 2/3 innings with the club. The 29-year-old has a 5.50 ERA and 32/18 K/BB ratio in 52 1/3 innings over seven starts and nine relief appearances overall this season.

Gonzalez has struggled after getting off to a hot start this season, hitting just .230 with a .589 OPS and a 33/5 K/BB ratio in 54 games. Prospect shortstop Jonathan Villar is a possibility to replace him on the active roster, though Jake Elmore could be called up first as a stopgap.

as an astros fan marwin Gonzales should have a free roster space inducted into astros hall of fame and have his own statue outside the ball park for breaking up yu darvish perfect game in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs

Too bad about LeBlanc. After the Hanster trade, when Scrooge and the Chihuahua went for the salary dump, he was very good for the Feesh last year when nobody else was, and seemed to get off on the right foot, then imploded. Hope he gets himself straightened out.

Marwin has all the tools to be a very good ss, and has great chemistry with Altuve in the field.
I hope he is able to figure it out, because his plate discipline is really bad.

Villar welcome to the show… You will do until it’s time for C.C.

Jake Elmore is being recalled. I like Elmore, but was briefly excited hoping it was Villar.

I think we will see Vilar, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was September. I would assume Marwin gets at least a decent shot a straightening his hitting out.
