Derek Holland did not have a good time at the Counting Crows concert last night

Jun 25, 2013, 8:23 AM EDT

When Major League Baseball schedules off-days for 22 of the 30 teams stuff is gonna go down. Stuff like Rangers pitcher Derek Holland going to Newark Red Bank, New Jersey to see the Counting Crows and then getting kicked out. Note: these tweets are not from 1995:

In other news, Counting Crows still exist.

  1. danagidner - Jun 25, 2013 at 8:35 AM

Reblogged this on Dana's Quiet Place for her loud, wandering mind and commented:
WTG Derek Holland.. who goes to see counting crows anyhow?

    • heyblueyoustink - Jun 25, 2013 at 8:39 AM

Would this be considered “vulturing: a blog, much like “vulturing” a win?

      • ezthinking - Jun 25, 2013 at 9:33 AM

        Yes it would.

    • cur68 - Jun 25, 2013 at 9:51 AM

Note to all: Dana here does not know that the “Reblogged this…” stuff appears here. Its a wordpress thing that happens after you click the “Reblog” link at the top of the page. There’s no point getting all upset with the commenter for it.

You may now resume trolling one another. Thank You.

      • danagidner - Jun 25, 2013 at 9:53 AM

I apologize for any trouble.. I will delete the blog.

      • cur68 - Jun 25, 2013 at 9:55 AM

Relax. Lots of people re-blog stuff. Sometimes though commenters seem to take it personally and get all up in the grill of the re-blogger thinking the “re-blogged” thing is intentional.

If I recall correctly, Craig has said he doesn’t mind. And why would he? It puts his work out there more. Perhaps if you forwarded it on to the Pulitzer Committee he’d be even MORE grateful?

See how nicely the exchanges go when you aren’t using your Angry Beaver face? You’re welcome.

      • cur68 - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:33 AM

‘Philiac, you have no idea how much trouble that stupid picture I took is getting me into. Wish I’d left the angry-weasel pic. Anyhow, it IS coming in kind of useful in a way: I’m using it for leverage to get the Dominican Voodoo Priestess back to rooting Beaver even if it IS against Her Boys, The Devil Rayz. I may have to sell my ass on the internet, but its for a good cause. That’s ok in the eyes of the law, right?

      • historiophiliac - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:47 AM

        I…don’t need to know…

        /feels awkward

      • cur68 - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:50 AM

You started it. I’m going to provide you with awkward updates, too.

      • historiophiliac - Jun 25, 2013 at 5:07 PM

Hey, did you read all the comments? he he Someone said you should blow me. hahahahaha I love it.

      • cur68 - Jun 25, 2013 at 5:20 PM

Now that you’ve pointed it out, I’ve found it. That invitation was to “blow each other”. Bit of a trick there for me if your gravatar pic is at all accurate. YOU on the other hand…ahem…never mind.

The internet, eh? A wonderful place to meet all kinds of novel and deeply weird people. Not only can this individual NOT work the reply button, they can’s spell, punctuate, or properly capitalize.

Well, never mind. One thing about the witless; they’re easily overmatched by their daily circumstance.

      • historiophiliac - Jun 25, 2013 at 5:23 PM

Well, if he’s hoping for gay porn, he certainly picked the wrong post, eh?

      • cur68 - Jun 25, 2013 at 5:25 PM

Hadn’t thought of the gay porn angle. I’m flattered . . . I guess. You gonna be a terrible disappointment to him, though.

      • historiophiliac - Jun 25, 2013 at 5:26 PM

Hey! Awww, probably not the first time…

  2. 161andriver - Jun 25, 2013 at 8:41 AM

Let’s not pretend that a little 90’s music isn’t good for the soul every now and then.

I’m glad Derek Holland, he of terrible mustache fame, is the arbiter of all that is classy.

    • professormaddog31 - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:11 AM

I can’t think of Counting Crows without having a flashback to an episode of MST3k where Mike was having a hallucination that he was Adam Durwitz, singing “Mr. Jones” and otherwise having a nervous breakdown.

      • lazlosother - Jun 25, 2013 at 12:19 PM

How can that have any thumbs down?

      • professormaddog31 - Jun 25, 2013 at 12:46 PM

Maybe they are Joel fans? 😀

  3. alligator8 - Jun 25, 2013 at 8:41 AM

Derek came from Dallas with a camera in his hand
He said he plays ball with a boy whose name is Elvis

  4. chacochicken - Jun 25, 2013 at 8:44 AM

Damn it, I really thought the Rangers management had taken care of Derek Holland’s wacky antics. Can anyone confirm if this was an actual event and not some sort of psychoactive hallucination? Counting Crows? Newark, NJ? I just don’t buy it.

      Yeah, it happened.

  5. cohnjusack - Jun 25, 2013 at 8:50 AM

I have a feeling that “standing up and enjoying the concert” means something quite different to Mr. Holland than it does to the rest of the world.

Granted, only based on the experiences of me and those around me at the many concerts I’ve been to, but I’ve never once seen someone kicked out for standing up….

  6. jeffchadwick - Jun 25, 2013 at 8:59 AM

If the show was in Red Bank, I’m guessing it was at the Count Basie Theater, an old, and very small venue. I’d bet dollars to doughnuts Derek Holland and his porn ‘stache was doing a lot more than standing and enjoying the concert last night.

    • mybrunoblog - Jun 25, 2013 at 9:35 AM

According the the CC web site the show was in Red Bank. Holland references Newark in his tweet. I think it’s pretty funny he had no idea where he was. The two places are not even close to each other.

      • historiophiliac - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:27 AM

This cracks me up. Do you realize to a Texan/westerner everything in NJ is close to each other?

  7. therealbigben - Jun 25, 2013 at 9:02 AM

Go to a Counting Crows concert with your cam, gonna have a bad time

  8. indaburg - Jun 25, 2013 at 9:08 AM

I need to start following Derek Holland in Twitter.

The state motto of New Jersey is “New Jersey: No Laughter.” Surprised Holland didn’t know that.

    • professormaddog31 - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:10 AM

I’ve been following Dutchie on twitter for a while now. He posts cute photos of his dog, Wrigley and is actually pretty entertaining.

That being said, why anyone would travel from Texas to NJ for a Counting Crows concert is beyond me.

      • indaburg - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:22 AM

Cute dog and funny? Consider him followed.

      • indaburg - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:24 AM

        Aw, cute boxer.

      • geoknows - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:51 AM

The Rangers are playing the Yankees in New York tonight. It’s not like New Jersey is way out of the way or something.

      • professormaddog31 - Jun 25, 2013 at 12:47 PM

D’oh – I didn’t even think to look at the schedule. Perhaps I should change that to “Why anyone would travel to see Counting Crows” in the first place. LOL

  9. shaggylocks - Jun 25, 2013 at 9:29 AM

He probably got kicked out for using a digital camera. He must have missed the sign at the door: film cameras and 5 lb. cell phones only beyond this point.

  10. professormaddog31 - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:12 AM

I’m sad, Dutchie. Counting Crows? I thought you had better sense, man. At least mix in some Gin Blossoms and Toadies or something.

    • historiophiliac - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:17 AM

Just stop. I can sense already you are inching up to Puddle of Dumb and let’s not go there, okay? Thanks.

      • professormaddog31 - Jun 25, 2013 at 10:32 AM

Oh no. No, I prefer to leave that band in the dust far behind me. To be honest, Derek seems like the kind of kid who would have listened to Phish in high school.

  11. Jonny 5 - Jun 25, 2013 at 12:36 PM

So blame the state of NJ because you got kicked out of a private establishment? I’m thinking he did more than just stand up and have a good time.

Another thing: Never go to Newark for any reason ever. EVER!

    • mybrunoblog - Jun 25, 2013 at 1:57 PM

Down Neck in Newark is terrific. The Pru arena (The Rock) is an awesome place to see a game or concert. I also catch an occasional Newark Bears game. Sounds like everything you know about Newark is what you’ve seen on tv. Try and get of the basement sometimes bro.

      • ltzep75 - Jun 25, 2013 at 3:19 PM

No, Newark is a terrible, terrible place. You can keep it. I wish I did not have to live so close to that wretched hive of scum and villainy.

  12. shanabartels - Jun 25, 2013 at 12:37 PM

I’m surprised Holland went out of his way to attend an event in Jersey if he’s presumably staying at some fancy hotel in Midtown. Granted, I doubt he took NJ Transit to get there. But as a Central Jersey native, it is kind of funny to me.

  13. eoneil32 - Jun 25, 2013 at 12:51 PM

    definitely drunk

  14. iwillfindyou - Jun 25, 2013 at 1:25 PM

Hey Cur and Historiphilacuuuhuonouvfn9fuv, Get a room. or just go somewhere and finish blowing each other.

  15. aceshigh11 - Jun 25, 2013 at 1:28 PM

I hope Mr. Holland didn’t hurt himself falling out of his time machine.

Okay…granted…I’m a Stones fan, but they transcend that sort of thing. Who goes to a CC show in 2013??

  16. moogro - Jun 25, 2013 at 8:32 PM

    Gleeman music.
