Asdrubal Cabrera is back from the disabled list after missing the past three weeks with a quadriceps injury and to make room for him on the roster the Indians designated John McDonald for assignment.

Cabrera was off to a solid start before the quadriceps injury, hitting .254 with five homers and a .745 OPS to basically match his career numbers. Mike Aviles, who had been filling in as the Indians’ starting shortstop, will now go back to a utility role.

McDonald was acquired from the Pirates after Cabrera went down to provide some middle infield depth. He got a grand total of eight plate appearances for the Indians and at age 38 may have to put in some time at Triple-A if he wants to continue playing in the majors.

John McDonald, age 38. Congratulations are in order for carving out a long career without (by major league standards) much batting talent.

My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.

I always get the names John McDonald and Michael McDonald mixed up. Looks like they’re both Takin’ It to the Streets now, though.

I think John’s career is Minute by Minute at this point.
