The Tigers have called up Bruce Rondon

Jun 28, 2013, 1:30 PM EST

The Detroit Tigers grand bullpen experiment continues:

Rondon pitched three games for the Tigers earlier this season. He’s pitched in 30 games in Toledo, posting a 1.52 ERA while striking out 40 batters in 29.2 innings and walking 13. He has 14 saves.

He throws a gabillion miles an hour, but that fastball is often pretty straight and he walked a lot of guys while getting prime-time auditions in spring training and in those three games in the bigs this year.

Still: it ain’t Valverde. And he’s the best arm they have in the system.

Can Brian Wilson please come out of whatever rock he’s hiding under?

  2. tigersfandan - Jun 28, 2013 at 1:45 PM

Dare we hope that the corresponding move involves Phil Coke?

    He doesn’t look very svelte.

he won’t stand out on the team…

Hey, maybe you guys can give Valverde intentives to make weight and see how he does for you.

    “gabillion miles an hour”….

….A blonde woman and her husband are eating breakfast around the table and the blonde is reading a newspaper and starts crying. The husband asks what’s wrong and through her sobbing she reads outloud the headline of “One Brazilian dead in forest fire”. Perplexed, he asks why that makes her sob when the news reports deaths all the time? She exclaims, “This is a horror!!! Usually everyone gets out of the way of a forest fire, how did this one take so many lives!!!”

    Bud-oom, ch!

I found it hilarious you managed to spell ‘gigab0t’ correctly, but made an absolute abortion of everything else.

I’d guess that Darin Downs is going down to the minors. Downs has given up 5 ER in his last three outings. For the year, Downs has a fine K/BB ratio, but he’s probably expendable in the Tigers’ view.

Except for smiley the whole damn BP is expendable

    • historiophiliac - Jun 28, 2013 at 4:32 PM

      Nope, Reed, apparently.

      Darin Downs, aka The Syndrome.

A straight fastball and 4 walks per 9 innings at the MLB level … what could possibly go wrong?
