Rays embark on “accidental preppie” road trip

After defeating the Tigers 3-1 this afternoon, the Rays prepared to take a short four-day trip to Houston to play the Astros. Before departing, the Joe Maddon-led squad slipped into some themed attire, apparently dubbed “accidental preppie”.

Dave Haller, the director of communications for the Rays, tweeted a bunch of pictures of Rays in their attire. Here’s an album, courtesy /r/baseball:

As one of the more analytical managers in baseball, Maddon has certainly made his mark in that regard, but let’s not forget that he has brought a penguin into the clubhouse and hired a DJ recently as well, both arguably as important as in-game tactics. (I kid, I kid.)

I get a kick out of Maddon, he seems to be a guy you would like playing for.

Sam Fuld isn’t dressed up in costume, pretty sure that’s how he normally dresses.

Joe Maddon is the reason people thought Mike Scioscia was a good manager.

Nothing remotely hipster about the sartorial choices on display

Once a year, neighbors have a themed Halloween party and it is a pain in the @ss to find something that will work. It’s once a year and it is always fun, but it is still a bit of work. I can’t imagine being a full-time major leaguer and doing this for every road trip. Is it me or would the togetherness thing get old after a while?

Good to see Yunel Escobar has come full circle to his ‘tu ere maricon’ incident.

Peralta and Escobar looking sharp – two guys I can’t imagine were ever preppy

Look at Longoria’s get up! The only thing he is missing is the pocket protector.
