Bryce Harper homers in first at-bat since coming off disabled list

It didn’t take Bryce Harper very long to shake the rust after missing the past five weeks with left knee bursitis, as he connected for a solo home run in his first at-bat tonight against the Brewers. Now that’s how you return in style.

The home run was an opposite-field blast off Yovani Gallardo which just eked over the left field fence and nearly ended up in Sean Halton’s glove. After Harper rounded the bases and returned to the dugout, he received a curtain call from the energized home crowd at Nationals Park.

Halfway through the season, the Nationals haven’t been nearly what most of us thought they would be, but a healthy Harper should go a long way to change that.

Below is the video of the home run:

It might have looked like a homer to all people watching and Bryce “Achilles” Harper, but we’ll to ask Mike Rizzo and Davey after the game for their viewpoint on the matter.

Bryce homered in his first two trips to the plate on Opening Day, and now this.

    He’s pretty good.

The announcers noted that Harper’s BP session before the game went terribly, and that he “threw the bat down in frustration” afterwards. Safe to say he wasn’t frustrated there.

It’s amazing how night and day this team is when Harper plays vs. when he doesn’t. Almost as though there is more effort. Not sure what that says about the team or better yet Harper.

Yeah, 13 runs yesterday (no Harper), only 10 today (with Harper)… I see the difference. :)

Oh natslady….I’m not completely sure what their record is with and without Harper but I’m sure you know there’s a big difference. I think their recent success has a lot to do with Rendon.

I’m pretty sure Bryce Harper has Bucco Fever too. That is the only explanation at this point.
