Or: Great Moments in promising $50 million of your employer’s money without him knowing about it. From the Daily News:

[Felix] Lopez, the Yankees’ executive vice president and chief international officer, took part in a press conference in the Dominican Republic on Monday to help make an announcement about a new privately funded $50 million baseball stadium outside of La Romana.

There was only one problem: the Yankees didn’t know anything about the project.

Lopes is Hal Steinbrenner’s brother-in-law. This is gonna make the Fourth of July picnic at the Steinbrenner house kinda awkward.

Now being the Daily News, i take it with a grain of salt. But if it is indeed true, it’s somewhat indicative of how fractured and split the power structure of the Yankees front office seems to be.

Don’t blame the Daily News *this* time!

Don’t forget to bring the potato salad to the picnic. Just not German potato salad.

      • historiophiliac - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:47 PM

What’s wrong with German potato salad?

      • heyblueyoustink - Jul 2, 2013 at 1:16 PM

Just not my up of tea. But daytime television sure gets interesting. Watching a documentary on fight clubs where they use keyboards and such.

They should be more concerned with their stadium, with the way they’re playing, there’s a lot of empty seats.

Sounds like another “STFU moment” in the making…

Maybe I missed it, but how does Alex Rodriguez fit into all of this?

Anxiously awaiting the NYDN article asking “How would The Boss react to this??”

    • Jeremy T - Jul 2, 2013 at 10:50 AM

Fire half of his staff and probably kick an orphan or something, obviously.

      • Kevin S. - Jul 2, 2013 at 3:41 PM

Nah, fire half his staff and replace them with some orphan that caught his eye is more George’s style.

Maybe he should place his backside in a chair and close his mouth hole.

  8. bigharold - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:15 PM

Lopez should think back and remember what happened to Steve Swindel. One screw up and he went from running the Yankees to Steve who?

    • joshshaine - Jul 2, 2013 at 12:33 PM

      Steve who?
