Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com has the big scoop:

The Diamondbacks and Brewers have been talking about possible trades involving Milwaukee veteran righthanded starter Yovani Gallardo, and one of the Arizona names that’s surfaced in discussions is top pitching prospect Tyler Skaggs.

But a person familiar with the talks told Heyman that “there’s no traction at this point” toward a trade.

FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi reported earlier this evening that the D’Backs have also expressed interest in Brewers relievers John Axford, Jim Henderson and Francisco Rodriguez, so this thing could grow.

Gallardo has posted a 4.78 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 101 2/3 innings this season, but he boasts a 3.75 career ERA and a 1.31 career WHIP. The 27-year-old is making $7.75 million in 2013 and is owed $11.25 million in 2014. He carries a $13 million club option for the 2015 season which can be bought out for $600,000.

Arizona is currently leading the National League West. Milwaukee is in last place in the NL Central.

Correction: brewers are last place in the league

Why would the dbacks trade one I their top prospects or a guy with an era close to 5.00 this year. We already have enough of those

  3. packerguy85 - Jul 4, 2013 at 12:21 AM

Marlins have a worse record, Brewers are 2nd to the bottom…and please god let the Dbacks take this bum!

That would be awesome. Yo never did live up to that Ace label we put on him way back. He was probably the best #2 in baseball, but never quite got passed it. If we can get rid of that contract plus get a guy that has tremendous upside, I am all for it.

How about … one dirty sock & two peanuts ?

Wouldn’t be sad to see Yo gone. Way to inconsistent, can’t beat the Cardinals, velocity is down. He just hasn’t lived up to his ability.

    • brewcitybummer - Jul 4, 2013 at 11:28 AM

he hasn’t lived up to expectations put in him for sure. but his initial profile was a guy with good fastball command, average velocity, an inconsistent but good breaking ball and no third pitch. he never profiled as an ace to many objective observers. Early Yo was really the quintessential example of the difference between the scouts definition of an ace and the media and fan meaning of an ace. Of course Yo at this moment isn’t even a number 2 so your point stands.

Take him! Please! Take afford the chokeman too!

Trading Yovani is fine, but as a Brewer fan, I do not want Skaggs. He has shown nothing in the majors and the Brewers already have enough AAAA pitchers.

the Diamondbacks GM Towers needs to take some adderall and cool the f*ck down, and STOP dealing the pitching talent! The Diamondbacks drafted Max Sherzer and dealt him. I’m still kissed about that!…

    • nsauser - Jul 4, 2013 at 9:25 AM

Yea but you got Ian “Zero Control” Kennedy and Edwin Jackson! But yea I see your point for sure, trading Skaggs seems like a knee-jerk reaction. I don’t know why they traded for Bell and re-signed Putz, those guys are dead weight.

DBacks also traded CarGo and Jarrod Parker in previous attempts to ‘go for it’, and that also made the team worse in the long run. Develop the young guys, sign the very best to long-term deals, let the others leave. Makes the trade deadline boring, but its a better use of budget dollars and a better team in the long run–especially if you have budget limits like the DBacks.

Oh please…Brewers need GOOD young players. Hope this happens.

    *pissed (damn you auto correct)!

They will not trade Tyler Skaggs after what he did to the Rockies 7/5.
