White Sox place Paul Konerko and Jesse Crain on DL

Paul Konerko has a sore back and Jesse Crain has a sore shoulder, and the White Sox have placed both players on the disabled list.

Konerko has struggled all year, hitting just .249 with a career-worst .682 OPS at age 37, so shutting him down for a while may not be such a bad thing. On the other hand Crain was emerging as a potentially very valuable trade piece thanks to an incredible 0.74 ERA and 46/11 K/BB ratio in 37 innings with free agency right around the corner.

Adam Dunn figures to see most of the time at first base in place of Konerko, leaving the designated hitter spot for Jeff Keppinger.

I guess this means no All Star game for Crain.

Of course Crain has a sore shoulder once he gets knocked around a little. There was no pain evident during his 31 straight scoreless appearances though.
