Jered Weaver names son Aden in tribute to late teammate Nick Adenhart

Jul 6, 2013, 10:05 AM EDT

Angels right-hander Jered Weaver became a father for the first time yesterday, as his wife Kristin gave birth to a baby boy. In a touching tribute, they named him Aden David Weaver.

Adenhart was killed by a drunk driver just hours after he pitched six scoreless innings for the Angels on April 8, 2009. He was just 22 years old. Two of his friends also died in the crash.

Weaver honors Adenhart’s memory before each of his starts by writing the initials “NA” into the dirt on the back of the mound.

Actually dp, considering some of the unusual names some parents saddle their kids with these days, Aden sounds pretty normal.

Nice gesture. His nickname in school will probably be AIDS.

    Very cool

I remember when that happened. It was an utter shock, and it was quite sad (in a literal way) to see Adenhart’s jersey hung in the dugout each game that year.

    should have named him Dream.

Personally if Nick had been my son I would be honored beyond belief that Jered and Kristin thought so much of my son to honor his memory by naming their first born after him. Aden is a beautiful name Jered and Kristin, it would have been nice for a boy or a girl..Good choice of a name and bless you for your kind jester towards the memory of Nick Adenhart. Your a class act in my book, Nay sayers get a life!!
