Chad Gaudin faces one count of “open and gross lewdness” in Las Vegas

Saw this via Deadspin, which saw reported in today’s Las Vegas Review-Journal. Giants pitcher Chad Gaudin was arrested back in January after allegedly groping a woman who was on a hospital gurney in Las Vegas. The kicker: Gaudin, who was drunk at the time, had no idea how he ended up at the hospital at 4:30 AM that January morning:

According to police, Gaudin was drunk about 4:30 a.m. when he approached a 23-year-old woman on a gurney at Desert Springs Hospital, three miles east of the Las Vegas Strip. The woman told police she was lying on a gurney in the emergency room lobby when Gaudin appeared, told her “she was gorgeous” and touched her face and breast, she said.

A witness heard Gaudin say, “I will take care of you, don’t worry about them,” to the woman and then saw him touch her face, leg and breast, according to a police report.

How this stayed quiet for six months is anyone’s guess. But at least we now know the answer to the question “man, what could make this Giants season any worse?”

This would be my 4th worst Vegas trip.

  2. missthemexpos - Jul 10, 2013 at 3:37 PM

I know why it has stayed quiet for 6 months, because what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

So much for the adage, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”. But even so I wasn’t aware they changed the spelling of the gambling center.

My Wife sometimes admonishes me for being open and gross.

    • jwbiii - Jul 10, 2013 at 9:05 PM

Yes, and my wife sometimes returns the favor. But I certainly don’t do that with some random prostrate person in a hospital.

    Stay classy, Giants!

“man, what could make this Giants season any worse?”

    Francoeur. Jeff Francoeur.

    • Glenn - Jul 10, 2013 at 7:37 PM

How about Matt Cain groping Jeff Francoeur and injuring his pitching arm?

  7. yahmule - Jul 10, 2013 at 4:01 PM

It’s too bad none of her family members were present to punch that asshole in the face.

The Hangover was just a movie. Don’t act it out in real life.

Crazy Ex-Wives, Roman Releif Pitchers. This website is getting better than Textsfromlastnight, deadspin, or The Smoking Gun.

  10. tablescrappy - Jul 10, 2013 at 4:22 PM

What could make it worse? How about Matt Cain leaving today’s start after 2/3 of an inning and less than 40 pitches? Is he hurt or something?

    • geoknows - Jul 10, 2013 at 5:54 PM

Maybe it was the whole two-hits-three-walks-three-runs-allowed thing. Could be they decided he just didn’t have it today so let’s put everybody (well, everybody other than the Mets) out of their misery.

But at least we now know the answer to the question “man, what could make this Giants season any worse?”

Ugg, never ask that. I remember asking that about the 2007 Cardinals.

    Timeline of Events:
    Spring Training-Tony Gets DWI
April- Chris Carpenter gets lost for the season on opening day
April – Pitcher Josh Hancock gets killed in car accident
August- Substance abuse problem forces Scott Speizo out of baseball
August- Juan Encarancion is hit in the eye with a line drive, shattering his orbital lobe and ending his career
August- The one bright spot, Rick Ankiel’s improbably return as an outfielder dims when it is reveled on the front page of the NY Daily News that he recieved HGH shipments, thus tainting in the eyes of many on of the great stories of 2007

My lesson from that year…it can always get worse.

    • stlouis1baseball - Jul 10, 2013 at 5:37 PM

Jeesh Cusak! Thanks a lot for the reminder(s).
That was a horrible sequence of events (from Spring Training through August). Wow.

  12. chip56 - Jul 10, 2013 at 5:07 PM

So it turns out that Gaudin is a worse human than he is a baseball player – which is pretty impressive when you consider how crappy a baseball player he is.

Arod and Braun are about to be suspended 100 games, but this little pervert will go completely ignored by MLB. Amazing.

    • bigmeechy74 - Jul 10, 2013 at 8:46 PM

It’s because what they did affected the actual games on the field. Are you one of those people that think people that abused cocaine should be punished more than pete rose was for gambling on games? In other words, are you another one of those people that lack common sense?

      • jimeejohnson - Jul 10, 2013 at 9:52 PM

C’mon: our justice system is rigged. Drugs are bad, very bad, but gambling is as American as…that loser Donald Trump, The decline of this country is easy to blame on Republicans and Democrats but let’s face it: money talks and feces walks.

      • somekat - Jul 11, 2013 at 1:11 AM

Money talks and feces walks is what made America great. Getting away with that to Money talks, so let’s make sure everyone has some, is what’s slowly killing it

MLB has historically stayed away from suspending players for off the field stuff, they usually leave that up to the teams themselves. But at some point, if the team isn’t going to (and obviously they aren’t), the league should step in

  14. rvnc - Jul 10, 2013 at 5:26 PM

It’s typical our most consistent pitcher (other than bumgarner) turns out to be a massive pervert and a criminal. Now we have to spend the rest of season watching Mike Kickham get shelled whilst Kruk and Kuip tell us everything will be okay and that the kid has a future in the game….

  15. westcoastredbird - Jul 10, 2013 at 5:26 PM

Being from Louisiana Gaudin was so drunk he probably thought he was at the Mardi Gras and acted according.

  16. dhuf12 - Jul 10, 2013 at 5:30 PM

Maybe he was helping her remember the baseball signs…. Touching the breast is steal and the face is a take sign

  17. jkaflagg - Jul 10, 2013 at 5:39 PM

When Gaudin was with the Yankees, his fiancee appeared on the TV show “Say Yes To The Dress”, where she shopped for a wedding dress. The ironic part was that she was assisted by the wives of fellow Yankees C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett; who, as you can imagine, had a far grander (and more expensive) vision of a wedding dress than that the future Mrs. Gaudin, whose husband was not quite in their husband’s salary range…..

Hope the couple is still together and if so, they can get past this; as others have noted, in today’s world of cell phone cameras and TMZ, it’s pretty amazing it took 6-7 months to hit the news…..

  20. somekat - Jul 11, 2013 at 1:09 AM

How lewd does your behavior have to be to be arrested for lewdness in the world capitol of lewdness? Ok, maybe 2nd to Amsterdam, but isn’t that WHY people go to Vegas? You know he had to do some creepy stuff
