From Jeff Wilson of the Forth Worth Star-Telegram comes word that the Rangers have placed right-handed starter Yu Darvish on the 15-day disabled list with a slight strain in his right trapezuis muscle.

The Rangers are confident that the shoulder injury isn’t serious and expect Darvish to be ready for activation almost as soon as his 15 days are up. He will obviously have to drop out of the All-Star Game.

Darvish, 26, has posted a 3.02 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 18 starts this season, fanning a whopping 157 batters in 119 1/3 innings. He allowed five runs over six innings last Saturday against the Astros in his worst start of 2013.

Texas entered play on Wednesday with a half-game deficit behind the A’s in the AL West standings.

4 out of 5 Opening Day starters on the DL…

I know every team deals with injuries, but holy crap the Rangers are snakebit this year.

Most of the injuries happened last year & now they’re in the rehabilitation phase . Hopefully, the Rangers(team) will be hitting their stride full strength towards the last couple of months before playoffs.

Most happened last year? Feliz, Lewis, and … ? Currently on the DL from injuries suffered this season: Darvish, Tepesch, Ogando, Harrison, Baker, Berkman, Gentry, Kirkman. I’m pretty sure 2/10 cannot be considered “most”.

At least the All-Star Break will be included in the 15 days. Holland is the Rangers really have now. Perez needs to keep it going and Ogando/Colby need to hurry up and get back onto the field.

This is a move to get Darvish out of the ASG and get a sustained 2 weeks of rest, nothing more, nothing less.
