Manny Ramirez hit another homer last night in Triple-A

Jul 13, 2013, 4:29 PM EDT

Manny Ramirez had another good game for Triple-A Round Rock last night, as he went 3-for-5 and delivered a go-ahead solo home run in the ninth inning. Check out the video of the home run below.

Ramirez, who turned 41 in May, joined the Rangers earlier this month on a minor league deal. He’s hitting .286 (6-for-21) with two home runs, four RBI, and a 2/3 K/BB ratio over his first six games in Triple-A. Expectations were pretty modest going in, but with Lance Berkman on the disabled list with a hip injury, perhaps we haven’t seen the last of him in the big leagues.

By the way, Lee Warren has some quotes from Ramirez over at Minor League Ball, which is an excellent blog if you are into reading about prospects and the like.

That elbow guard was obviously cramping his style.

Like us all, he has his flaws, but I’ll always root for MbM. Nice to see he still has a little game. Hope he’s enjoying it. I’m looking forward to seeing him in a Rangers uniform.

I agree. Manny has his flaws, unlike the rest of us, his are written about and broadcast to the public. Because of those flaws, no one seems to give him credit for things that would result in kudos for other players. How many players that have had his career, success, and made over $200M would sign a minor league deal at age 39, then sign to play in Taiwan at age 40, then sign a minor league deal after turning 41? The guy obviously loves to play baseball and will do whatever is necessary to keep playing.

Apparently, if you use PEDs (I realize Manny has other flaws, but it seems to be the PED use that is the root of general hate/ambivalence toward him) you don’t get any credit for anything else you do in life that you would get credit for otherwise.

That ball was juiced! Er, crushed, I mean. PEDs!!!!!!
But seriously, if Manny being Manny means Manny is hitting garbage pitches like that for HRs, he’s obviously got some gas left in that swing. That was a Vlad Guerrero HR. How many other hitters would even swing at that pitch, let alone hit it out of the park? I seriously hope he finds a place in the Rangers’ lineup.

I can’t believe i’m saying it but i’d like to see Manny make it back to the Majors with the Rangers. All the “Manny Being Manny” crap aside, this article over at BuzzFeed about his time in Taiwan has me rooting for him:

He’ll always have the stain of PED usage. But he was still talented. Everyone deserves to attempt to redeem themselves. Except Barry Bonds, he’s just a straight up asshole.
