All-Star lineups have Chris Davis, David Wright cleaning up

Jul 15, 2013, 2:04 PM EDT

Here are the starting lineups and batting orders for the All-Star game:

   AMERICAN LEAGUE NATIONAL LEAGUE
1. Mike Trout, LF 1. Brandon Phillips, 2B
2. Robinson Cano, 2B 2. Carlos Beltran, RF
3. Miguel Cabrera, 3B 3. Joey Votto, 1B
4. Chris Davis, 1B 4. David Wright, 3B
5. Jose Bautista, RF 5. Carlos Gonzalez, LF
6. David Ortiz, DH 6. Yadier Molina, C
7. Adam Jones, CF 7. Troy Tulowitzki, SS
8. Joe Mauer, C 8. Michael Cuddyer, DH
9. J.J. Hardy, SS 9. Bryce Harper, CF

Fans didn’t vote for a National League designated hitter so manager Bruce Bochy chose Michael Cuddyer as the DH, which makes sense considering he’s hitting .330 with 16 homers and a .960 OPS that ranks second in the league.

It’s pretty silly to care about All-Star game batting orders, but Brandon Phillips hitting leadoff is amusing considering he has a .320 on-base percentage this year and a .321 OBP for his career. Meanwhile, Bryce Harper and his .371 on-base percentage hit ninth. Of course, All-Star starters tend to only play a few innings anyway, so … whatever.

Trout, Cabrera, Davis in the same lineup…

Who cares about the lineup, it’s not like this EXHIBITION game counts for anything……wait…. What!?… It does what!?… Seriously!?… Home Field!?… No WAY!!!…..REALLY???

Why is there a DH if the game is being held in a N.L. park?

    • Joe - Jul 15, 2013 at 2:59 PM

Because no pitcher is going to hit for himself regardless.

    • historiophiliac - Jul 15, 2013 at 5:14 PM

Because they want people to watch.

How about Bochy’s statement batting Harper 9th and even calling him “Brian” during the press conference.

He didn’t have the numbers to ba an All Star but won the popularity contest….just like last year.

Harper was an injury replacement last year. Unless you’re trying to say that the injury to Giancarlo Stanton was the result of a popular vote. Which would be weird. Anyway, let’s hope Brian does okay, and that the official program spells his name correctly.

Harper has played exactly 2 games in center field this year, compared to 55 as a corner outfielder.

      And, your point is……?

All Star ballots just vote for 3 OF, not for LF, CF, RF. It is not unusual to have guys picked that force someone to play out of position. Would you put Beltran and his creaky knees in CF, or make the kid do the running? I thought so.

If I was going to play a video game with those lineups I am pretty sure I would want the al team.

American league looks like a hof limeup

Maybe in comparison to this year’s NL lineup. Miggy, maybe Mauer, and who else? Too early to call HOF on Trout; the rest… c’mon.

      This NL lineup… yuck.

Near definitely Ortiz and quite realistically Cano.
