We get it. Not everybody is into the Home Run Derby. But some of you are and that’s totally fine. We’re here if you want to talk (or complain) about it.

Feel free to use this as an open thread to discuss the festivities at Citi Field this evening. Below you’ll find the eight participants for this year’s derby.

National League

David Wright (NL Captain) – 13 home runs this season

Michael Cuddyer – 16 home runs this season

Bryce Harper – 13 home runs this season

Pedro Alvarez – 24 home runs this season

American League

Robinson Cano (AL Captain) – 21 home runs this season

Prince Fielder (defending champion) – 16 home runs this season

Chris Davis – 37 home runs this season

Yoenis Cespedes – 15 home runs this season

In Matthew’s preview earlier today, he pegged Prince Fielder as the favorite. And as a two-time winner, he probably should be. O’s slugger Chris Davis obviously has a ton of hype coming into tonight’s event, but I’m hoping to see Bryce Harper put on a show.

Love love love love love love love love the Mets inspired BP caps! Going to the game tomorrow: can’t wait.

  3. dondada10 - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:09 PM

Also, gonna call it: Harper gets the W.

    • commonsenseisnotcmonman - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:10 PM

I hate to agree with Berman, so based on that Im going Cano

    • contraryguy - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:14 PM

Pedro Alvarez has that king of batting practice look. Taking him for the upset.

      • dondada10 - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:18 PM

He’s got a lot of incentive to win. He’s from the Heights and is at the derby amidst very mild controversy.

  4. commonsenseisnotcmonman - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:19 PM

Did that fan in right side upper deck have a Bronson Arroyo Face cutout with a hole in the mouth? If yes, why?

  5. kjericho43 - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:24 PM

Will Chris Berman ever retire? I encourage it.

    • sophiethegreatdane - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:33 PM

      He’s crap-crap-crap-crap-craptastic!!

      • historiophiliac - Jul 15, 2013 at 9:17 PM

Is that the dude clucking? Wow, that’s terrible!

  6. commonsenseisnotcmonman - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:30 PM

    Cuddyer > Fielder

    Whoda thunk it

  7. dondada10 - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:38 PM

I’ve never seen 1 ball hit into the left field upper deck.

    • commonsenseisnotcmonman - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:39 PM

Ortiz summed it up pretty well, sick stuff this kid has.

      • dondada10 - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:41 PM

But I mean never. Not on a telecast, not in person at BP. Never.

  8. mikes112291 - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:44 PM

I have come to the point where I just can’t listen to Berman anymore

  9. contraryguy - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:46 PM

Cespedes raking like a monster. Save some for next round!

    • hcf95688 - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:51 PM

  10. herlies - Jul 15, 2013 at 8:56 PM

For participating, half of these guys should receive a gift from Rosetta Stone.

    • hcf95688 - Jul 15, 2013 at 9:08 PM

you speak more than one language? Redneck & Dumbass don’t count.

    • dafern0560 - Jul 16, 2013 at 5:39 AM

Americans are the only people in the world that make fun of people for trying to speak in their non native English language, yet, they can’t or don’t even try to learn a complete phrase in a foreign language.

  11. historiophiliac - Jul 15, 2013 at 9:20 PM

    Harper or P!nk. You decide.

  12. knowlegeforyou - Jul 15, 2013 at 9:27 PM

He probably doesn’t speak another language but if he lived in another country he might. You are the ignorant one

    • hcf95688 - Jul 15, 2013 at 9:52 PM

The Latin ballplayers just work here in the U.S. Most don’t live here.

I worked in Iraq for almost two years. I picked up a little Arabic, but not enough to conduct an interview.

  13. askcabs - Jul 15, 2013 at 9:28 PM

Honestly. You are right. What is with Bryce Harper’s hair???

    • hcf95688 - Jul 15, 2013 at 10:28 PM

Piazza’s hair is about as bad.

  14. 13arod - Jul 15, 2013 at 9:34 PM

    Fielder sucks

  15. cmdrsmooth - Jul 15, 2013 at 9:53 PM

Last time David Wright was Ina homerun derby, he loss his swing for a few years.

  16. frankdatank23 - Jul 16, 2013 at 10:12 AM
