HBT Daily: What can the Yankees expect from Alex Rodriguez?

Jul 18, 2013, 2:00 PM EDT

That is, if he doesn’t get suspended to death before he can come back. And when will those suspensions happen anyway?

  1. uyf1950 - Jul 18, 2013 at 2:20 PM

More then they have gotten from any combination of: David Adams, Jason Nix, Kevin Youkilis or some of the others that have played 3rd base this season so far.

    • Kevin S. - Jul 18, 2013 at 8:31 PM

Yankee third basemen are hitting .218/.281/.293 this year. It’s almost impossible for A-Rod not to be an improvement at third.

    • beachnbaseball - Jul 19, 2013 at 10:35 AM

Craig…..why is Robinson Cano named on the list shown on the graphic at the 1:20 mark? I thought MLB told the Yankees he was not under investigation. This is a pretty egregious error if it was an accident in the graphics department. NBC should retract and apologize for this.

  2. tbutler704 - Jul 18, 2013 at 2:26 PM

What can the Yankees expect from Alex Rodriguez? More than likely, for him to get hurt again. This is his 19th year in MLB, that’s a long time.

    • uyf1950 - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:20 PM

This is actually his 20th year but who’s counting. He broke in with the Mariners in 1994.

  3. aceshigh11 - Jul 18, 2013 at 2:38 PM

Unfortunately, we can expect too much drama from A-Rod and a lot of complaining by Yankees fans.

    • stlouis1baseball - Jul 18, 2013 at 2:41 PM

Yeah…and I dread both of them Aces.

      • fanofevilempire - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:17 PM

and don’t see any post here about how much they love
you and St Louis baseball so STF UP ALREADY!

      • stlouis1baseball - Jul 18, 2013 at 5:42 PM

Easy there Sir Ragealot! I thought you New Yorkers had thick skin. Cause’ you seem a little sensitive.

    • fanofevilempire - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:15 PM

so why do you comment on every A-Rod story, and then post garbage
about Yankee fans complaining, why don’t you get lost loser!

      • aceshigh11 - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:36 PM

Talk about a mindless, unhinged tirade.

You should get your psychosis treated before you hurt yourself or someone around you.

      • jeffa43 - Jul 18, 2013 at 6:12 PM

It’s not just Yankee posts… St.screwy trolls all the teams posts with negativity, and clueless comments. She is a instigator who is unhappy and has to much time on her hands. She even bashes Astro fans…

Who on earth that claims to be a baseball fan would go as low to bash Astro fans today.
Just thought I would chime in…. Ya, she has issues.

    • uyf1950 - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:16 PM

aces… sure there will be complaining. Some of that by Yankees fans. Just as there is complaining by other teams fans about their own players like Cardinals fans about Pujols or Red Sox fans about Lester. It’s the nature of the game. As much as fans like yourself think Yankees fans are somehow different we are no different then other teams fans. Expect with perhaps one difference, we have in most cases greater/higher expectations. Have a nice day.

      • uyf1950 - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:17 PM

        correction: “Angels” fans about Pujols

      • turdfurgerson68 - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:27 PM

Sorry, little if any bellyaching from Sox fans about Lester. No need to.

        Lackey on the other hand….

      • uyf1950 - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:38 PM

turd…, we must be talking about 2 different Lester’s. The Lester I’m referring to imploded in September 2011, pitched poorly in 2012 and has been extremely inconsistent so far this season. You still think there has been “little if any bellyaching from Sox fans about Lester”? Because I’m not sure that’s an accurate statement.

      • aceshigh11 - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:39 PM

I didn’t make a value judgment about fans complaining.

The title of this post is: “What can the Yankees expect from Alex Rodriguez?”

I answered that question 100% dispassionately. There WILL be plenty of complaining from Yankees fans about A-Rod’s performance.

What other teams’ fans do is completely irrelevant to this discussion.

      • aceshigh11 - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:41 PM

        turdfurgerson68…

Did you just wake up from a Rip Van Winkle-style nap?

Check your calendar. It’s not 2011…Lester has been a disaster this year, and Lackey is having a career season.

      • uyf1950 - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:58 PM

aces…, I hate to point this out to you but you did NOT answer the question.
The questioned posed in the headline is: “What can the Yankees expect from Alex Rodriguez?”

That question makes no reference to Yankees fans or what you can expect from Yankees fans. So you neither answered the question nor answered is as you say “dispassionately”.

Sorry but you are 100% wrong in your analysis of your own response.

      • stlouis1baseball - Jul 18, 2013 at 5:45 PM

        Correction not needed UYF.
Cause’ Cardinals fans (this one included)…also complained about Pujols a great deal. Immediately after he signed with the Angels of course!

  4. banpeds - Jul 18, 2013 at 2:49 PM

Odds are AROD could have a busy weekend trying to save himslef from a lifetime ban. Playing Monday or next week may be the least of his concerns shortly.

    • ditto65 - Jul 18, 2013 at 3:46 PM

There is no way he gets a lifetime ban. No way.

  5. ndnut - Jul 18, 2013 at 3:11 PM

A-Rod has played a long time, won the rings, and earned money. He could/should retire.

    • Alex K - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:37 PM

He should play for as long as he wants. If he still has the desire to do the work he should keep doing it.

  6. 13arod - Jul 18, 2013 at 3:31 PM

banpeds if he does get suspented it will be next year idiot they said this a couple of days ago

    • banpeds - Jul 18, 2013 at 3:57 PM

Who is they? what did they say? This is what ARods Union is saying publically below… It’s all over but the shouting for AROD and all the cheaters, when thier own union turns on them. Sending a message to the cheaters you will be better served cutting a deal is ominous at best. What Arod and all the cheaters dont understand, is that there may not even be a deal to be cut….

“I can tell you, if we have a case where there really is overwhelming evidence, that a player committed a violation of the program, our fight is going to be that they make a deal,” Weiner said without referring to specific players. “We’re not interested in having players with overwhelming evidence that they violated the (drug) program out there. Most of the players aren’t interested in that. We’d like to have a clean program.”

      • fanofevilempire - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:21 PM

Why don’t you go read why they can’t hand down any suspension until
next year anyway, and doesn’t A-Rod get a chance with his union to
defend himself, or did he give up that right. Please stop posting ridiculous
        comments.

AROD has every right to appeal, I never siad he did’nt. But he has over 100 million reasons to not want a lifetime ban. He’ll take his suspension and he’ll be happy with it, when all is said and done.

The comment above I posted is not mine, it is from the Head of the Union from an interview he had yesterday afternoon. All I offered was my opinion on what his words mean. too many ingnorant people read what reporters write, instead of following exactly what is fact from people that have vested interests.

  7. turdfurgerson68 - Jul 18, 2013 at 4:28 PM

  8. banpeds - Jul 19, 2013 at 9:47 AM

It appears Arod will indeed have a a busy weekend. He will owe MLB an answer on whether to accept a plea bargain suspension.
