Nolan Reimold underwent spinal fusion surgery last June, but the issue was not resolved and now the Orioles outfielder is going under the knife again for a similar operation.

Reimold hasn’t officially been ruled out for the season, but as manager Buck Showalter put it to Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun: “I don’t think you will see him again this year.”

Reimold was once a top prospect who had a very good rookie season for the Orioles in 2009, but he’s played just 182 of a possible 583 games since then while repeatedly being derailed by injuries. Now at age 29 his career is seemingly in jeopardy, because Showalter talked about Reimold simply being able to do “his daily day-to-day activities and just living his life right … and the baseball part of it, I’m told, should come.”

Sad news. This guy had a ton of ability. Just couldn’t stay healthy. I hope he gets well & then DFA him & see if the “change of scenery” approach works. Thought he was gonna be a star……
