Paul Maholm exited Sunday’s start in the fourth inning with a left wrist injury and the Braves have placed him on the disabled list with what they’re calling a contusion.

Maholm was excellent for the Braves in the second half last season after coming over in a trade from the Cubs and as of June 1 he had a very similar 3.69 ERA this season, but he coughed up 16 runs in his last three starts as his ERA ballooned to 4.41.

Alex Wood will start in Maholm’s place Thursday and the Braves are also expected to get Brandon Beachy back from Tommy John elbow surgery soon.

Hopefully he won’t come back either. He has been horrible for the last 2 months. Wouldn’t mind seeing wood or beachey get a couple starts to see what they can do
