HBT Daily: What’s the Braun fallout going to look like?

Jul 23, 2013, 1:00 PM EDT

What, you were expecting me to talk about the Mariners win streak?

“I realize now that I have made some mistakes.”

So now that you have been caught red-handed and have been labeled a cheater and a liar…you’ve suddenly come to this realization? It’s going to be a long, hard road for Braun to earning everyone’s respect and trust back, and he may never be the same player again after this debacle.

I reference Barry Bonds. If he comes back and keep an OPS above .900, he won’t have much problem. The home fans will still be cheering him.

      Don’t kid yourself.

“I’ve tried to handle the entire situation with honor, with integrity, with class, with dignity and with professionalism because that’s who I am.”

    *facepalm*

The fallout for those who are falsely accused if PED use is going to be significant. It is going to be very difficult to aggressively defend oneself in the media after what Braun has done.

I want to say that figures in sports media such as Craig Calcatera are complicit in all this by emboldening Braun’s bullshit and excusing away and romanticizing the technicality/chain of custody caveat as some greater contributor to our legal standing and civility.

But in all honesty, I have not seen one sports media figure so god damned thick skulled and persistent in missing the mark as Craig has accomplished with this topic (and much of the other unnecessarily hyper-polarized treatment he gives such trivial and topical issues, such as a game).

So you’re saying I’m the best?

Don’t be so quick to say the fans in Milwaukee will cheer for him no matter what. If anything, we should feel more cheated than anyone. I bought his jersey. I paid to see him play. I took my kids to see him play, because I thought he was something special. I bought into his story the first time. Turns out he’s nothing more than a cheater and a liar. Beyond that, he embarrassed Milwaukee, and left the team on the hook with $133 million of salary…and the question of whether that money is buying a great player, or a guy who played that well because he was juiced. What kind of example is that for kids, the same ones who wear #8 in little league because that’s Braun’s number? I, for one, will never cheer for Ryan Fraud again.
